Department:REP | General Surgery Peds 2 JonesboroDepartment's Website: Summary of Job Duties:The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an APRN or PA (see below descriptions). The APP promotes an integrated approach to patient care by functioning as a clinician, educator, consultant and researcher. The APP is accountable for promoting harmonious relationships among the members of the health care team and a positive image of The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children's Inc.Key Responsibilities: 90% Patient Care (Inpatient/Emergency Department/Consultation): Daily management of pediatric patients across all surgical subspecialties: primarily pediatric surgery, orthopedics, & otolaryngology. The APP will provide comprehensive care of inpatients throughout their hospital course, respond to consult requests from other inpatient services and from the emergency department, and participate as an active member of the trauma team, including resuscitation and subsequent management. The APP will plan and prescribe treatment according to approved protocols; Perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems with pediatric patients; Coordinate with inpatient, OR, and Emergency Departments to facilitate flow and efficiency of patient care; Coordinate follow-up care as well as educate patients and families on diagnosis and treatment plan; Collaborate with other medical and surgical specialties within the Arkansas Children's System and in the region to provide the most appropriate care for patients in the facility and across the medical system. 5% Education: Participates in surgery conferences as indicated based on role; Instructs medical learners at multiple levels (nurses, medical students, residents, physician assistants as appropriate); Presents clinical cases to members of the research and surgical teams; Participates in surgical/trauma education and outreach to the local and regional medical community. 5% Quality Improvement/Research: Actively participates in quality improvement activities (i.e., collecting data, suggesting and implementing approved changes and measuring outcomes) and the development of strategies to improve patient care delivery and cost effectiveness; Utilizes research to discover, examines and evaluates knowledge, theories and creative approaches to health care practice; Critically evaluates existing practice in light of current research finding; Identifies research questions; Disseminates relevant research findings through practice, publication, education and/or consultation Qualifications: Professional License/Certificate: APRN: Arkansas RN License and Masters in Nursing from an accredited School/College of Nursing with National Certification in Acute Care Pediatrics, 3 years Pediatric Nursing experience -OR-- PA: Physician Assistant certified in the State of Arkansas, 3 years of experience with pediatric patients. Either must be eligible for prescriptive authority certificate.
