Job Description Summary

The Advanced Portfolio Analytics Expert role will enable the Strategy and Portfolio Management (SPM) team to provide the Data & Digital (D&D) organization with actionable insights using advanced analytics and AI. The role will produce standardized reports, dashboards, and self-service LLM agents for leaders of the Data & Digital organization and its stakeholders.
The role will ensure data fidelity, data governance, incorporation of financial and benchmark data as well as owning the portfolio data relationship model. This expert role will collaborate with D&D senior portfolio managers and across the Strategic Business Operations and Partnership (SBOP) teams to enhance data alignment and drive efficiency within the team's mandate towards high impact.

Job Description

Major accountabilities:

  • Build, adapt and monitor D&D 'business' level dashboards and reports and make them available to D&D leaders and key stakeholders to foster data-driven decision-making across the organization
  • Supports D&D team and leaders from all D&D Functions in alignment with senior portfolio managers to develop the best quantitative and qualitative reports and fit-for-purpose dashboards
  • Generates new insights through analytics and benchmarks from portfolio and external data to increase data-driven impact
  • Ensures high portfolio data fidelity and that portfolio metadata supports the metrics required for benchmarking and business case development.
  • Works closely with senior portfolio managers to align generated insights with the D&D community
  • Responsible and maintains the portfolio data relationship model
  • Ensures all portfolio level data is connected, audit trailed and captured in governed portfolio-approved tools
  • Quick turnaround of new reports as well as custom reports and analytics as required for all D&D governance bodies and top-level leadership members
  • Collaborate with SBOP teams to guarantee alignment with portfolio management and business performance data, specifically on existing interfaces and dependencies
  • Scouts, implements and operationalizes AI tools for the team to become leaner, faster and increase impact to our key stakeholders

Key performance indicators:

  • Dashboards and reports provided by SPM are up to date to the respective reporting cycles
  • Dashboards and reports are based on high data fidelity
  • D&D leaders have easy access to information and insights provided by SPM that are needed to make decisions within their scope of empowerment
  • Data Relationship Model, analytics and AI methods are well documented and kept up to date
  • Data flows are integrated across functional systems supporting D&D business processes while consolidation opportunities are explored
  • Data-centricity is at the core of portfolio management, thus models like DIF (Data Integration Framework) and "data as an asset" as well as initiatives like EDM (Enterprise Data Management) should be aligned to and opportunities to lead by examples should be explored and implemented
  • Data & Digital continuously drives to lean, efficient ways of working and a centralized strategic portfolio management framework through regular review/feedback
  • Targets on customer satisfaction and quality, compliance standards are met

    Minimum Requirements:
    Capabilities and Skills:

    • Ability to work in cross-functional teams along with strong organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Proven capability interacting and collaborating with leaders, managers and teams in a complex matrix organization
    • The candidate must have sound judgment, be well organized with a strong emphasis on attention to detail.
    • Must be able to handle several activities in parallel and follow through on expectations, with minimal supervision.
    • Self-motivated, proactive in anticipating needs and thinking beyond the guidelines provided.
    • Able to work independently and contribute as an effective team member.
    • Accuracy, special attention to data fidelity and adherence to deadlines is essential.

    Work Experience and Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in technology, engineering or life sciences or equivalent experience demonstrated
    • Formal training in project/program and/or portfolio management
    • 5+ years of experience working in a high paced global environment in an operational role supporting technical leaders and teams
    • Understanding stakeholder management and governance frameworks.
    • Understanding of IT organizations and portfolio management
    • Experience with various project/portfolio management tools
    • Knowledge with Business Intelligence tools (PowerBI is a plus) and semantic data models
    • Fluent business English, German is a plus
    • Ability to travel 10%

    Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $114,100 and $211,900 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
