MISSION:

To clean, paint, inspect, placard, record, inventory, warehouse, ship and receive low-level radioactive material and other hazardous materials in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and PCC procedures. Impacts production, purchasing, shipping and receiving in the areas of materials and waste flow requirements.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Materials Collection, Inspection and Storage

Objective: to safely collect, receive, inspect, label and store radioactive and other hazardous materials; to adhere to a schedule to meet disposal requirements.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Inspects and collects drums of materials at department sites, and transports to Block House if drums meet inspection criteria.
2. Opens drums at Block House and inspects for liquid and fullness; prepares for shipment when dry.
3. Closes, secures, paints, labels, logs and reseals drums which passed inspection; stencils drums to identify radioactive waste.
4. Moves and stores drums until ready for shipment.
5. Checks for radiation levels.

Shipment

Objective: to inspect and load drums of radioactive waste for shipment to Hanford in accordance with DOT/DEQ/EPA regulations; to prepare neutralized waste for disposal at designated landfills.

Essential Job Functions

1. Checks labeling and placarding; bands material in trucks.
2. Loads truck using forklift; completes final inspection of drum shipments in conjunction with Environmental Services.
3. Notifies Hanford of radioactive waste shipments.Support Services

Objective: to expedite new and waste material in and out of production areas and into waste material storage area.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Unloads and inventories alpha slurry, acid, caustic and other chemical drums; loads and unloads empty drums.
2. Unloads and inventories outside deliveries of hazardous chemicals; contacts supervisor to arrange for empty drum pickups.
3. Cleans and neutralizes minor chemicals spills in work areas, according to PCC regulations and MSDS procedures; contacts supervisor and Environmental Services for major spills.
4. Maintains thorough and accurate logs and records.

Safety

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Adheres to plant and department safety rules, including those for handling low-level radioactive and other hazardous materials.
2. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
3. Identifies and reports safety problems.
4. Maintains clean, safe and secure work areas.

OTHER (MARGINAL) ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Performs other tasks as directed.
2. May be required to work with hazardous waste.

TRAINING:

1. Training is provided on the job.
2. PCC's Forklift Driving Safety Certification must be completed.
3. Hazardous Waste Material Handling Training must be completed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to read, follow and interpret complex written and oral instructions and technical specifications.
2. Basic knowledge of hazardous chemicals and training in hazardous communications or and equivalent combination of experience and training is preferred.
3. Previous warehouse experience, with experience in forklift driving, inventory and storage and/or shipping of low-level radioactive materials, and operation of power and pneumatic tools is preferred.
4. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. (Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
6. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes. Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and climb to perform daily job functions. Ability to exert up to seventy-five pounds of force to move objects (lift up to 35lbs).
