What Employee Relations & Labor Relations contributes to Cardinal Health
Human Resources designs, implements and delivers human resource programs and policies, including recruitment, talent management, diversity and inclusion, compensation and benefits, among others. This function anticipates and plans for long-term human resource needs in alignment with business strategies.
Employee Relations provides impartial advice and counsel to managers and employees on a wide variety of employee relations and management issues. This job family is responsible for conducting investigations, preparing responses to federal, state and local governmental agencies and conducing organizational health engagements focusing on positive employee relations.Labor Relations is responsible for ensuring the health of existing collective bargaining agreements, educating management on union awareness and addressing third party attempts to organize our workforce.
Job Summary
The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations & Labor Relations supports people managers across Cardinal Health by providing guidance on employee attendance issues and by creating cases for tier two employee relations issues. As part of the Advice and Counsel Center and under the supervision of a Manager, the Senior Specialist reviews cases submitted by people managers and applies defined policies to determine appropriate resolutions and disciplinary actions. The Senior Specialist also administers cases for Advisors, Employee relations & Labor Relations and follows up with people managers to ensure that they receive the best counsel on tier two issues.
Responsibilities
- Manages the Employee Relations group mailbox and reviews cases submitted by people managers to determine whether the message is regarding a new or existing case and whether it is a tier one or tier two case.
- Uses case management system and other internal applications to create new cases for tier two cases, including performance, safety, workplace violence and business conduction violations. Forwards case to Advisors along with documentation submitted by people manager.
- For attendance and job abandonment cases (tier one), reviews attendance trackers, corrective action forms, and other documentation submitted by people manager.
- For tier one cases, applies defined policies for corrective actions based on case review and provides recommendations and counsel to people managers regarding the issue.
- Administers cases in the case management system, including updating case statuses and information. Communicates with people managers following the provision of a recommendation by an Advisor to ensure that appropriate action has been completed and to close cases.
- Supports the Manager and Advisors by reviewing and managing guidelines, documentation, and case management resources. Ensures that resources are up-to-date and managed in the appropriate location internally.
- Act as site Liaison between employees and the business.
- Support site by MBWA (Management by Walking Around) interacting directly with employees to emphasize informal communication and observation.
- Identify and triage concerns to help improve morale and site culture.
- Administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience, preferred
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
- Working knowledge ofEmployee Relations issues, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and other state and federal regulations in the United States, preferred
- Union experience preferred
- Strong bi-lingual skills (English and Spanish) of reading, writing, and comprehending, strongly preferred
- Flexibility to support day and night shift as needed
