Overview

Geosyntec has a limited-term, part-time opportunity for a Senior Consultant - Civil Engineer - Embankment Dams (up to 20 hrs./wk. for up to one year) to support our growing Dams & Levees practice, preferably in our Davis, CA or Los Angeles, CA office. There is an opportunity for a fully remote work schedule at the discretion of the Company. In this position you will apply engineering fundamentals and technical expertise to a variety of complex, multidisciplinary, civil and geotechnical engineering design projects, including developing layouts, grading plans, and details for including dams, levees, and spillways across the U.S. Projects may also include opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Understand and visualize overall engineering concepts and translate to design drawings with construction and material specifications.
  • Develop civil design drawings and details for embankment dam rehabilitation and new construction.
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and project managers to deliver high-quality design packages.
  • Utilize software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, and other dam design tools.
  • Participate in client meetings to understand project scope, constraints, and design objectives.
  • Lead or contribute to QA/QC reviews of design deliverables.
  • Mentor junior designers and engineers and provide technical guidance on civil design best practices.
  • Contribute to schedule and budget planning and provide input on constructability and cost considerations.
  • Provide technical input for designs of cut-off walls, spillways, and overall modifications of dams, levees, and hydraulic structures.
  • Provide technical input for designs of drainage plans, and stormwater and wastewater conveyance systems.
  • Provide analysis and quality control of survey data.
  • Review and produce scopes of work for surveying efforts.
  • Provide technical input for surveying and civil engineering designs.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering or related field. (preferred)
  • Current Professional Engineer License (CA). (required)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 15 years (20+ preferred) related experience in a professional civil engineering setting focused on embankment dams or similar infrastructure; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position. (required)
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, with experience using tools like HEC-RAS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, or similar. (required)
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, erosion control, and earthwork design. (required)
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for working with interdisciplinary teams and clients. (required)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and support multiple project teams concurrently. (required)
  • Ability to teach / mentor others in design techniques both in the software and on paper. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below is the potential compensation range that we in good faith believe is applicable for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base pay range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Pay: $150.00/hour / Maximum Pay: $180.00/hour (all California locations)
