Graphic Designer I

Job Summary

The Creative Services Designer is responsible for designing and producing custom book covers and related materials. This role supports both in-house production and customer-facing activities, ensuring high-quality design, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and a safe working environment in accordance with company policies.

Essential Functions

• Travel during summer months to facilitate in-person workshops.
• Conduct virtual design sessions and workshops with schools and sales representatives.
• Collaborate with schools to develop creative, production-ready cover designs.
• Stay current with design trends and production techniques to replicate and adapt styles effectively.
• Provide technical and creative guidance to clients based on production limitations and capabilities.
• Ensure customer satisfaction through flexibility, proactive problem-solving, and alternative design solutions within budget constraints.
• Design book covers from concept through final artwork; occasionally design endsheets, division pages, and folios to maintain thematic consistency.
• Generate and prepare production-ready files.
• Inspect and approve printed cover sheets during press runs.
• Maintain professionalism and creativity in all customer-facing interactions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong problem-solving skills in both structured and unstructured situations.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
• Effective presenter, able to communicate design concepts clearly to clients and teams.
• Artistic background with demonstrated creative ability.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and sound judgment.
• Valid driver's license required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a Creative Arts related field and two years' experience in Graphic Design or a related function OR
• Associate degree in a Creative Arts related field and four years' experience in Graphic Design or a related function OR
• High School Diploma or GED and six years' experience in Graphic Design or a related function
