ELECTRICAL PROJECT MANAGER

The Electrical Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and execution of all electrical aspects of a large-scale industrial construction project. This role oversees the project from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring that all electrical systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project specifications, budgets, and timelines. The Electrical Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between the owner, engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, and field crews, and driving alignment across all stakeholders. This position requires a strategic leader who can manage complex schedules, high-volume procurement, and large crews in a dynamic construction environment.

Qualifications:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, commercial construction and applicable codes-such as power distribution, controls, instrumentation, and automation.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical project management, with a strong focus on industrial construction
  • 5+ years of related experience, including experience with self-perform capabilities
  • Deep technical knowledge of industrial power distribution systems, grounding, switchgear, lighting, controls, instrumentation, and automation
  • Demonstrated experience building strong partnerships and trust with external partners, including owners, owner's representatives, design firms, and subcontractors
  • OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain required


Preferred:



  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license (preferred or required depending on state)
  • Familiarity with design-build and EPC delivery methods
  • Estimating and field experience
  • Scheduling experience

Office and Travel:



  • Must be willing to travel regularly and accept out of town assignments ranging from weeks to months or years at a time.


Responsibilities and Tasks:

Project Planning & Coordination



  • Lead project preconstruction efforts including estimating support, design reviews, value engineering, and electrical system planning
  • Develop detailed project schedules and phasing plans aligned with overall construction milestones
  • Define scopes of work and assist in selecting, negotiating, and managing electrical subcontractors and vendors


Field Execution & Oversight



  • Provide daily oversight and coordination of all electrical installation activities on-site
  • Collaborate with field supervisors, foremen, and safety managers to ensure work is installed per plans and code
  • Resolve field conflicts quickly and effectively to maintain momentum and reduce rework
  • Conduct regular site walks and quality control inspections


Budget, Procurement & Cost Control



  • Overall project success: Successful management of project financials, including fee retention and client satisfaction
  • Manage project budgets and cost forecasting for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
  • Approve invoices, change orders, and monitor cash flow against the schedule of values
  • Oversee procurement and timely delivery of long-lead items and equipment (e.g., transformers, switchgear, panels)
  • Management of major portions of a large project or overall responsibility for smaller projects
  • Mentoring and coaching Asst. PMs and PEs
  • Continuing to develop skills to successfully manage projects
  • Understanding scope changes and performing quantity take-offs, pricing, and tracking all project revisions
  • Fostering and building relationships with owners, design partners, subcontractors and suppliers


Stakeholder Communication & Reporting



  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, engineers, inspectors, and general contractors regarding electrical scope
  • Facilitate regular meetings and issue project updates, progress reports, and status logs
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including RFIs, submittals, as-builts, and daily reports


Compliance, Safety & Quality



  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and all applicable local codes
  • Partner with safety leadership to enforce jobsite safety plans and participate in audits or incident reviews
  • Drive quality control efforts and final system commissioning and turnover procedures


Strategy Management



  • Assist with the development and implement electrical project management strategies.
  • Continual assessment for additional market opportunities
  • Coordinate and manage the development or improvements as it relates to risk management processes
  • Management of relationship with external partners.


Other Duties as assigned



  • Actively contribute as a member of the Industrial Team by collaborating on shared goals, aligning efforts across departments, and supporting team priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, design partners, and suppliers.
  • Represent the company at business development events such as client functions, industry conferences, and design firm open houses.
  • Foster ongoing relationships with existing clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to strengthen partnerships and ensure future collaboration.
  • Proactively seek and cultivate new relationships with potential clients and design firms to support business growth.
  • Attend and engage in internal project management and cross-functional company meetings.
  • Participate in relevant training opportunities for personal and professional growth, including leadership development and human resources topics.
  • Support and participate in company-sponsored events and initiatives that promote team engagement and culture.
  • Perform duties of a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager, as needed, to support project execution.
  • Follow and reinforce standards of work, ensuring consistency and accountability.
  • Participate in Lean events and actively support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the McGough Way.
  • Emphasize relationship-building as a core part of the role, both internally and externally.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's workstation and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,000, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

Please note that the range provided above reflects the hiring range for this role. Hiring near the top end of this range would be atypical, as we aim to allow room for future salary growth. Additionally, McGough offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package. This includes insurance coverage for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability.
