Job Description

Position Summary

Welding assigned parts during the manufacture process of railroad equipment including set up and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using fixtures and/or blue prints combined with measuring devices.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Ability to weld with MIG Wire up to .045
  • Preheat parts up to 450 degrees F
  • Weld plates or parts up to 2" in thickness
  • Inspect grooves, angles, and gap allowances, squareness or imperfections on parts
  • Remove rough spots from work piece, using a grinder, hand chisel, or pneumatic chisel
  • Weld components in flat, vertical or angled positions
  • Set up parts per blueprint drawing using fixtures or other measuring devices
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidate Specifications

Minimum Requirements

  • 1-2 years of prior welding experience with a weld certificate of training (within the past
  • 2 years)
  • 5+ years of recent experience if no certificate of training
  • Experience using MIG welding machines and with daily set up and maintenance
  • Ability to read basic welding blueprints
  • Ability to use and read a tape measure to l/32nds of an inch
  • Ability to use carpenter's square, combination square, level; and, basic welding tools
  • Experience using pneumatic/electric grinders
  • Good relations, communication skills, and must be able to interact well with co-workers
  • and management
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and imperfections in parts or work
  • Work with set goals and meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and be willing to work flexible hours and weekends as required
  • Excellent attendance
  • Safety orientated
