Laboratory Assistant II (Path Tech I)

Position Highlights:

• Position: Laboratory Technician II (Path Tech I)
• Location: Highland Park Hospital
• Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm

What you will do:

• Provide non-technical support by accurately assigning surgical pathology case numbers and entering these cases in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Ensure specimen container(s), requisition and cassettes match for patient identification and specimen site.
• Resolve discrepancies prior to gross examination.
• Provide support services for the Anatomic Pathology department by assisting the Pathologist, Pathologists' Assistant and/or Resident in preparing specimens for gross dissection and frozen section slide diagnosis.
• Perform quality control, maintain gross room equipment, maintenance logs and perform other gross room duties, as assigned.
• Answer phone calls, receive specimens from outside departments and provide exceptional customer service.
• Complete end of day duties, including but not limited to filling out a specimen log and packing up blocks and/or specimens to be sent out via courier service.

What you will need:

• License: None

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Basic college-courses in Biology and Chemistry preferred
• Certification: None
• Experience: No experience required; however, some healthcare experience is a plus.
• Skills: Ability to work efficiently in a highly organized manner with particular attention to detail. Must possess strong communication and customer service skills and be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment. Capability of performing basic problem identification and resolution. Ability to accurately type 20 words per minute. Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
