Reports to the Compensation Director and is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a wide variety of assigned compensation programs that provide consistent and equitable treatment of employees, are cost efficient, and are consistent with philosophy of the organization on merit and market position. Administers compensation programs and policies as assigned. Works in a team environment supporting the Worcester based hospitals, the Medical Group, member hospitals and physician compensation.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Assists in the development of compensation programs by performing analyses of competitive pay practices, economic trends, current market position, and cost impact. Gathers, analyzes, and studies appropriate market data. Makes appropriate recommendations based on studies.
2. Conducts audits of pertinent aspects of compensation programs such as FLSA compliance, job titles, employee classifications, union increase compliance, pay equity, and others audits as assigned. 3. Conducts, participates in and analyzes custom and standard surveys for the UMass Memorial Health Care System as well as developing and maintaining a record of resources. Is responsible for the quality and the timeliness of data uploaded in the Access database and serves as the resident expert.
4. Conducts monthly audits of job descriptions signatures to ensure all job descriptions are up-to -date to maintain our standard for Joint Commission compliance. Serves as liaison for obtaining resigns and works in conjunction with other staff members on job changes and rewrites.
5. Performs analytical studies in a variety of compensation areas, such as internal and external equity, differentials, competitive pay practices, and recommends policy and/or program changes.
6. Performs job evaluation studies and job audits to include job analysis, creation of job descriptions and recommendation of salary classifications. Analyzes and defines job requirements. Recommends appropriate grading of positions.
7. Models various compensation programs to determine pay impact and costs as assigned.
8. Conducts special studies of compensation program problems and presents recommendations for their resolution or implementation of program changes.
9. Develops and prepares various standard and custom reports to display current employee and compensation data, and to reflect compensation program performance in a variety of areas such as merit increases, budget performance, and position to market.
10. Provides guidance to managers, Talent Acquisition and Business Partners on compensation and system issues.
11. Works with Physician Compensation Consultant as needed.
12. Assists in the development and writing of compensation program policies and procedures. Participates in the application of compensation policies, practices, etc.
13. Participates in special projects and studies for Human Resources.
14. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
15. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
16. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
17. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
18. Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
19. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

II. Position Qualifications:

-Associate's degree in Business Administration or equivalent, plus three years of related work experience.

-Knowledge of compensation principles and practices is required.

-Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and a variety of software products such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Access.

-Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with all levels of staff and management.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
