We offer cloud-based solutions and the necessary hardware components to intelligently gather and enrich data of industrial equipment to streamline fleet management related processes.

GemOne is seeking an R&D Engineer to join our innovative R&D team. At GemOne, we develop our solutions from the ground up - from initial design and firmware development to prototype validation.

As a member of our R&D team, you'll play a key role in shaping the full product lifecycle. You'll also benefit from our strong investment in software engineering, allowing you to contribute across a wide range of cutting-edge projects and technologies. This is a great opportunity to be hands-on in a dynamic, collaborative environment where innovation drives everything we do.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary R&D point of contact for CAN reverse engineering in our Americas operations.

  • Collaborate with global experts to learn and master CAN-related development, eventually leading development efforts independently.

  • Design, develop, and refine wiring harnesses tailored to specific industrial machines to ensure seamless integration of our IoT devices.

  • Drive improvements to make our hardware integration solutions as customer-friendly as possible, aligning with our core product philosophy.

  • Contribute across the full product development cycle - from hardware design and firmware development to prototype validation.

  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to support and align embedded and backend software development with hardware solutions.

  • Participate in cross-functional engineering initiatives to deliver integrated, high-quality IoT products.

  • Stay up to date with state-of-the-art IoT technologies and actively apply learnings to enhance product development.

  • Occasionally travel to customer sites, test facilities, or equipment yards to support field testing and data collection efforts.

HOW TO SUCCEED

  • 5+ years of experience in R&D or similar engineering roles.

  • Strong understanding of low-level data concepts such as bits, bytes, endianness, signed values, and bitwise operations is highly preferred.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and use basic diagnostic tools to measure and troubleshoot electrical systems is required.

  • Skilled in clear documentation and effective communication, both with local and international teams.

  • Detail-oriented and structured in your approach, with a strong preference for quality over quantity.

  • Comfortable with hands-on tasks, such as assembling custom cables and working with connectors.

  • Proficient in Python and its ecosystem, particularly for developing tools/scripts for CAN bus data capture, analysis, and visualization is required.

  • Basic knowledge of C/C++ for embedded systems is a plus.

  • Familiarity with embedded Linux environments and Bash scripting is highly preferred.

  • Possess a healthy level of critical thinking, willing to question the status quo and suggest improvements.

  • Proactive and solution-oriented - you don't just identify challenges, you also propose and act on potential solutions.

  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to customer sites, equipment yards, or testing facilities for data collection, hardware access, and team collaboration.
