Job Description:
Our client is seeking a skilled and hands-on Facilities Engineer to support the operations of its laboratory and office facilities. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic engineering professional with experience in mechanical systems, utilities, and facilities infrastructure to make a tangible impact on high-performing, science-driven environments. This position plays a key role in ensuring that the facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Monitor and support building utility systems to maintain efficient and reliable operations.
- Lead or contribute to the design, installation, and startup of mechanical and utility systems.
- Troubleshoot systems and lead root-cause analyses to address reliability or performance issues.
- Oversee internal and external engineering deliverables (i.e., design narratives, specifications, SOPs).
- Review and approve design documents, shop drawings, and submittals for accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct site walks to coordinate utility connections and ensure proper system integration.
- Supervise construction activities, manage third-party vendors, and enforce safety and training standards.
- Support system and equipment shutdowns, small infrastructure repair projects, and capital improvements.
- Use and advocate for the CMMS system to ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities.
- Drive innovation and efficiency through KPI monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of facilities engineering experience in a scientific, manufacturing, or technical setting.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC, utilities, and building mechanical systems.
- Experience with commissioning, system troubleshooting, and operations support.
- Proficient in interpreting P&IDs, AFDs, and technical diagrams.
- Skilled in technical writing (i.e., SOPs, design reports, and system sequences).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, HVAC load software, hydraulic analysis tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience managing complex projects and mentoring technical staff.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to safety and quality.
- Knowledge of EHS regulations and facility compliance standards.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- This position is based primarily in Novato, CA, with weekly travel to Brisbane, CA required.
- Occasional travel to other U.S. sites may be needed.
- Pay range $140,000 - $160,000 depending on experience.
