About the Department
The Vector-borne Disease Diagnostic Laboratory is within the Department of Clinical Sciences ( DOCS), administered by the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State University.

The focus of the VBDDL at NCSU- CVM is diagnostic services and research to benefit animal health. It is our intention to provide quality answers to diagnostic questions. The assays, antigens and controls used are developed and validated as a component of our research.

Essential Job Duties
The Vector-Borne Disease Diagnostic Laboratory ( VBDDL) at the College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for a detail-oriented, proactive University Program Associate to join our collaborative team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in the daily operations of a high-impact laboratory that supports veterinary diagnostics and groundbreaking research.
You'll serve as the central administrative and communications hub of the VBDDL, ensuring seamless coordination between veterinary professionals, research collaborators, and laboratory staff. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and Principal Investigators, you'll support both clinical diagnostics and research initiatives through timely and effective communication, data organization, and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for incoming calls, voicemails, and emails.
  • Coordinate sample submissions and assist with troubleshooting submission issues.
  • Apply SOPs and lab policies to respond to client questions and complaints.
  • Facilitate communication between clients and lab directors for consultations.
  • Maintain digital records, organize research and clinical data, and support data analysis.
  • Order supplies and manage lab inventory and equipment needs.
  • Update websites, voicemail greetings, and social media communications.
  • Perform general administrative tasks and assist with special projects as needed.

Other Responsibilities
In addition to the core responsibilities of this role, there may be opportunities to take on additional duties that allow you to build new skills and gain a deeper understanding of the department's operations, including:

  • Entering diagnostic and research test submissions into the laboratory information system.
  • Notifying research staff of specimen arrivals and facilitating appropriate sample handling.
  • Assisting with storage and processing of submitted samples.
  • Performing rapid diagnostic testing (SNAP4DX Plus).
  • Maintaining office and laboratory workspaces.
  • Supporting other tasks as assigned by the laboratory manager or principal investigators.


Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
Experience with the following computer and software: Google Drives, Microsoft Office; Microsoft Excel; Orchard/ UVIS, or other laboratory information systems
Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry or other life science-related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience interacting with veterinarians and scientists utilizing diagnostic services
  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment
