As the Manager of Software Engineering, you will be focused on Vector's product, Scheduling, a comprehensive workforce management system that streamlines employee scheduling and resource management for various sectors like fire departments, EMS agencies, and law enforcement. You will lead a team of talented engineers to design, develop, and deliver cutting-edge software solutions that enhance our educational products. You will be responsible for driving technical excellence, fostering a collaborative team environment, and ensuring that our software meets the highest standards of quality and performance.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and coach team members to maximize their potential and grow their skills.
  • Support and guide team(s) toward exceptional outcomes and Scrum practices.
  • Provide ongoing, constructive feedback and performance reviews to drive improvement and inspire high performance.
  • Foster a collaborative and cohesive team culture that supports innovation and shared goals
  • Set clear expectations, goals, and priorities for the team, and hold team members accountable.
  • Handle performance issues promptly and fairly, offering support and guidance to resolve problems.
  • Support career pathing and succession planning to retain and grow talent within the team
  • Lead by example - demonstrate strong communication, adaptability and interpersonal skills.
  • Create and track as needed, software engineering processes, practices, and operations.
  • Engages, negotiates, and manages third party vendors contracted for development projects.
  • Partner with and provide direction to contracted resources across various time zones.
  • Engages in hands-on, in-depth analysis, review and design of the software including technical review of source code.
  • Works closely with managers to ensure development meets or exceeds customer requirements.
  • Ensures that all product designs are well documented, communicated and delivered in the expected timeline.
  • Provide sound decision making for software engineering and product development, sensitive to the constraints and needs of the business.
  • Stays current with emerging technology trends in product area and presents to software engineering team for their understanding, specifically AI.
  • Assess staffing needs and recruit staff using methods such as newspaper advertisements or attendance at job fairs.
  • Recruits, trains, schedules and evaluates subordinates according to established procedures.
  • Additional responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Requirements
  • Experience with the following: MySQL, PostGres, PHP, .NET ,Angular, React and Microservices.
  • Experience with AWS services is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Capable of communicating with technical and non-technical people.
  • Strong team player with the ability to train, tutor and lead.
  • Strong leadership and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Detail oriented, highly motivated independent worker who works well in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management, goal setting and prioritization capability.
  • Specific knowledge/experience may be required based on sector.
  • Continual development of the Vector Leadership Competencies.
