    Job Description

    This role can be based in Boulder CO or Phoenix AZ Office

    The Content Director is the go-to person for making sure everything we create - whether it's written, visual, or spoken - hits the mark from concept to publication.

    In this role, you'll lead content for the SupplySide Supplement Journal brand, making sure it's high-quality, on point, and truly valuable across everything we do - digital magazines, web content, e-commerce assets, and more. You'll team up with editorial, marketing, and sales to bring new ideas to life and ensure our content not only looks great, but performs well too.

    You'll also build strong relationships with professionals in the supplement space to grow our audience, boost engagement, and take the quality of our content to the next level.

    On top of that, you'll guide the editorial team on big-picture content strategy - always with an eye on what resonates with our audience and aligns with our overall business goals.

    Objectives of this Role

    Brand Voice and Content Leadership

    • Ensure content tied to the SupplySide Supplement Journal brand supports content strategies and brand goals.
    • Create content scopes for calendared content and ensure that the execution follows the outline and meets content objectives.
    • Solicit outside contributors and freelance writers, providing content assignments that align with brand voice and values, and ensure content objectives are met. Provide direction, feedback, and edits to assigned articles.
    • Brainstorm speaker ideas and moderation of conference programming for SupplySide events, both onsite and virtual. Collaborating with the Conference Content Director to support content development for individual conference programs/webinars/community events, working with industry subject matter expert speakers, and working with event and production teams on logistics.

    Collaboration

    • Work closely with SupplySide Supplement Journal editorial team on generating article ideas and oversight of content produced to ensure it's aligned with brand vision.
    • Collaborate with and inspire content development from other members of the content team by being available for topic brainstorming, editing and discussing ways to optimize content delivery.
    • Partner with the sales team to develop content that meets audience needs as well as sales objectives and helps identify target clients.
    • Collaborate with the art department to ensure designs of editorial products are in line with brand voice
    • Develop editorial calendars in coordination with Senior Content Director and sales team.
    • Collaboration with other directors and leaders at other Informa brands to deliver unique value propositions within interconnected customer needs.

    Guiding and Mentoring

    • Guide Managing Editors/Associate Editors on decisions related to digital products and content inclusion, design direction, setting precedents and revamping processes as needed.
    • Determine individual staff responsibilities and team commitments surrounding industry-related events.
    • HR management of direct reports, including timecard approval, PTO requests, etc.
    • Develop new staff and introduce them to the community at large

    Industry Connection

    • Keep abreast of industry trends, review the competitive environment and gather market data for the business, using the results to come up with well-informed topics and themes for content creation.
    • Work with outside stakeholders (such as trade organizations) on generating article ideas for op-ed columns. Proactively engage with target audience on a one-on-one basis, including CPG brand executives and ingredient suppliers.
    • Participate actively in the field, at industry events, online forums, networking and other engagement opportunities to develop relationships in the market.
    • Attend trade shows and conferences for the purposes of gathering information, and to meet and speak with audience members and clients.
    • Speak, present and moderate engaging and thought-leadership ideas during online and in-person industry events.

    Daily & Monthly Responsibilities

    • Manage freelancer and contributed writer relationships and budget, by assigning articles, ensuring deadlines are met and assignments meet content objectives.
    • Manage website ensuring updated content and featured content.
    • Ensure brand and personal deadlines are met and production goes smoothly.
    • Read competing publications, websites, newsletters and information disseminated by external sources to stay up-to-date with the marketplace.
    • Communicate with content team members and other stakeholders via meetings and other internal communication vehicles.
    • Edit all calendared content as appropriate
    Qualifications

    Skills & Qualifications

    Creative/Analytical Skills: Creative and analytical skills with the ability to conduct research and develop engaging, captivating content that appeals to the target audience and keeps the business/product ahead of its competition in terms of content and information, all while keeping an eye on sales numbers and client expectations.

    Communication Skills: The Content Director must display exceptional communication skills both in written and in verbal form. Communication must be clear, concise and unambiguous. Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to make effective presentations at industry tradeshows, webinars, podcasts and video interviews.

    Interpersonal/People Skills: The Content Director needs to be self-motivated and inspiring to others, able to work efficiently in a group setting as well as independently with minimal supervision, have a constant thirst for the acquisition of knowledge and be adaptable to change. The Content Director must possess outstanding people skills, which make the employee and able to establish long-lasting relationships and connections. This quality will spill over to the content they produce, enabling them to establish connections with the industry through that content on behalf of the business/product.

    MS Office/Software: Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficient or teachable in certain software, such as InCopy, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, photo/image management, SalesForce and Swapcard.

    Preferred Experience & Mindset

    Education: Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications or any other related field. An equivalent of this educational requirement in working experience is also acceptable.

    Experience: Ten years of working experience in a content editing/writing position with an ability to edit technical material. Demonstrate experience and interest in content research and analytics.

    Mindset: The Content Director has a thirst for knowledge and a desire to inspire junior editorial personnel, constantly improving the business's content and enhancing the audience's engagement. The Content Director thrives in taking ideas and raw information and processing it into something new, unique and captivating for the audience. The Content Director exhibits steady team leadership internally, from individual to team interactions.

    Additional Information

    The salary for this role is110,000 - 115,000 USD.
