Position Type: Full Time, 36 hours/week, Non-Exempt
Schedule: 9:00 am - 9:00 pm, three 12-hour shifts, variable days

Your role with us

As a prep recovery nurse at Salem Health Hospital, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients undergoing surgical and endoscopic procedures in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. With strong clinical judgment and keen assessment skills, you'll support patients from preoperative preparation through stage 2 recovery, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, timely transitions of care across all age groups.

What you'll do


  • Perform timely, thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans based on patient needs, history, and recovery goals.
  • Deliver age-appropriate, evidence-based nursing care throughout preoperative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, intervening in emergencies and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes to reflect patient progress and ensure continuity of care.
  • Support a safe, clean, and efficient unit environment by following infection control standards and reporting safety concerns.
  • Lead by example through professional development, shared decision-making, and, when assigned, charge nurse responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate adaptability by managing resources, maintaining supplies, and floating to other areas as needed.
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) or Bachelor of Arts degree in nursing, or non-nursing bachelor's degree with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). Candidates with an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and graduates of a diploma RN program are also encouraged to apply; ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience will be required to sign an agreement committing to complete their BSN or MSN degree within three years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon.
  • Minimum of one year of RN staff nurse experience.
