Starting Rate: $55.25/Hour

Overall Purpose:

Under semi-direct supervision, to perform the highest skilled manual work in connection with the inspection, repair, adjustment and servicing of complicated protector equipment used in the operation of a low voltage AC network system and as assigned, to direct the work of a crew assisting in this work.

Job Responsibilities:

Conducts regular inspections and tests of network protector equipment in determining operating condition and maintenance requirements.

Dismantles and reassembles complicated network equipment, performs necessary maintenance work, replacing gaskets and bushings, tightening loose connections, replacing worn or deteriorated parts, rebuilding equipment and testing reassembled equipment to ensure accurate and efficient operation.

Inspects relays, fuse blocks, high-tension oil switches and similar vault equipment in determining operating condition and maintenance requirements.

Clears and tags equipment, as required, and reports "on" and "off ' circuits.

Makes splices, determines phasing between two circuits, removes and replaces fuses, changes operating charts, takes temperature readings, conducts spot load checks and voltage tests, and performs similar special duties.

Handles trouble calls on the underground system diagnosing causes, locating and isolating faults and reports action required to restore service.

Performs all work in accordance with current safety regulations and practices, being watchful for the safety of employees in the work area.

Is responsible for tools and equipment used on assigned jobs.

Periodically, makes air tests on network equipment in connection with flood protection, sealing equipment against water leakage, as required.

Directs the work of a small crew of workers, assigned to network protector maintenance work, instructing them as to their duties and seeing that work is performed safely and satisfactorily.

Perform other work related to the above as required or assigned.

Tests atmosphere in enclosed/confined work areas and perform all work in accordance with current safety regulations and policies.

Education / Experience Requirements:

High school or equivalent supplemented by training in network protector maintenance and operation.

Four or more years of experience in cable operating and maintenance work, one of which shall have been as a 2"d Class Network Operator.

Good understanding of the operation of network protectors and related relay equipment, high tension oil switches and subway type transformers.

Thorough familiarity with the tools of the trade, with testing equipment used in this work and with modern methods of maintenance and repair.

Demonstrated skill and ability on precision maintenance and repair work.

Ability to interpret and work from operating maps and prints.

Working knowledge of established safety regulations and practices.

Maintains the appropriate Driver's License and necessary endorsements associated with the job requirements.

Must pass Company qualifying test (CAST).

Ability to instruct and plan and direct the work of others.
