About the Job

Position Overview
A bio-behavioral research group in the Department of Educational Psychology is looking for a full-time research professional to assist in ongoing research projects in highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Our work includes the assessment of pain and sensory function, parent-child interactions, self-injurious behavior, communication and cognition, and other health outcomes in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (e.g. cerebral palsy, Rett syndrome, autism spectrum disorder). The scope of this position includes development and implementation of complex behavior scoring systems, assisting in the supervision of co-workers and/or student workers to ensure progress and data quality, supporting data collection during in-person study visits, and collaboration on academic presentations and publications.

Ideal candidates have excellent attention to detail, and oral and written communication skills. Previous experience using specialized observational coding software systems (e.g., Mangold Interact), basic knowledge of statistical analyses, and content knowledge related to intellectual and developmental disabilities, parent-child interactions, and/or speech/language development are preferred.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities
Data analysis (50%)

  • Analyze behavioral data using structured behavioral scoring protocols
  • Conduct quality control checks and data extraction for eye-tracking data
  • Enter scored data with precision as data are analyzed
  • Maintain databases with high-quality, accurate data
  • Conducing basic statistical analyses

Development of observational coding protocols (5%)

  • Collaborate with other members of the research team to develop/adapt and test new observational coding protocols

Dissemination (15%)

  • Performing literature reviews
  • Assisting with the preparation of academic publications

Supervision and training (10%)

  • Provide training and ongoing supervision on data collection and analyses for co-workers and/or student workers
  • Collaboratively problem-solve basic issues that arise with co-workers and/or student workers

Collaboration with supervisor (10%)

  • Meet with direct supervisor and larger lab group for feedback, problem-solving, and continuing education in related content area

Data collection (10%)

  • Collect bio-behavioral data on campus and/or at community sites
Qualifications

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $22.40 - $23.15/hr. Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.
