UCI's School of Humanities has 185 faculty, 13 departments, and 16 Centers, all of which are supported by the Humanities Advancement team. The successful candidate will join a team where hard work, integrity, quality, and kindness are highly valued. This position will be responsible for coordinating stewardship and donor relations activities for the team, as well as assisting with a wide range of projects which support fundraising, as well as high level administrative support.

The Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies and Culture serves as an umbrella organization for various activities related to the study of Iran and the Persianate world at UC Irvine. Designated as a campus center by the Office of Research, the Center focuses on interdisciplinary research projects that bridge the arts, humanities, engineering, medicine, and the sciences. The center was founded through an endowment from microtechnology pioneer Dr. Fariborz Maseeh and the Massiah Foundation and is administered by the School of Humanities. Since its inception, the center has hosted numerous conferences on the Iranian world, presented cultural events for the local community, and established research clusters uniting scholars on the study of Middle Persian Inscriptions, Tehran, alternative music, the Late Antique Iran.

Encyclopdia Iranica is a project whose goal is to create a comprehensive and authoritative English-language encyclopedia about the history, culture, and civilization of Iranian peoples from prehistory to modern times.


Your Role on the Team

Administers academic and programmatic activities of Encyclopdia Iranica; a leading print and online resource dedicated to the promotion and study of Iranian civilization. Administers major academic or research program components to shape the landscape of online knowledge in English and the Persian language, working at the forefront of digital encyclopedia development and contributing to the preservation and dissemination of Persian culture and knowledge. Develops and organizes academic or research conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator or more senior Academic Program Officer.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Experience working with online encyclopedias or other digital reference materials
  • Understanding of copyright laws and intellectual property rights in digital publishing
  • Experience in developing style guides and editorial policies
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research preferred.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Persian, with excellent writing and editing skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in editing, preferably in an academic or encyclopedic context
  • Proven track record in managing editorial teams and projects
  • Strong understanding of Persian history, culture, and current affairs
  • Excellent research and fact-checking abilities
  • Proficiency in using content management systems and digital publishing tools
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive topics with objectivity and cultural awareness
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3-5 years Relevant work experience

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of SEO and content optimization for Persian-language websites
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools to track content performance
  • Ability to work in a multilingual environment (knowledge of English or other languages is a plus)
  • Doctorate in related area and/or equivalent experience training.

Special Conditions:

  • Must be willing to work evenings/weekends to attend events throughout the year.
  • Travel to attend conferences and scholarly society meetings to represent Encyclopaedia Iranica

Total Compensation

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $85400- $121100 (Annual).
