Machinist Intern
Purpose/ Summary:
The Machinist I position is responsible for assisting and learning the basic operation, installation, testing, adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used in the manufacturing of precision parts and components.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Under Direct Supervision:
- Operates and learns machining equipment to produce components as required by written instructions
- Changes, sets, and adjusts precision tools as required
- Loads and deletes programs in the computer
- Maintains specific tolerances and accurately performs dimensions
- Assists in checking parts using specified gages or furnished fixtures to ensure dimensions are maintained
- Performs routine maintenance checks and reports improper machine function
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area
- Follows all applicable safety rules and precaution
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
- Basic knowledge of or ability to learn the machinability of metals, with a good mechanical aptitude
- Good math skills, with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and
- One (1) year of relevant experience and/or training

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, acetone, alcohol, argon, braze alloys, nitrogen, hydrogen, oil-based lubricants and cleaning solutions
- The employee is occasionally exposed to moderate cold and extreme heat.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually Moderate to Average.
