The Salvation Army's Camp Mihaska located in Bourbon, Missouri, is looking for an Activity Leader. This position is a support and resource for programming and assists with basic camp program procedures. Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies and standards.

This is a part-time position of under 20 hours per week and has starting pay of $16.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:



  • Lead group activity sessions for low ropes, high ropes, climbing tower and / or Zip Line. Count, inspect and set up proper head gear, harnesses, ropes and safety equipment at appropriate field site. Deliver program supplies as needed and ensure said supplies are returned to the proper storage.
  • Assist with program leadership as needed.
  • Report statistics of final number of participants to Camp Director.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Program Director, Rec Director or Camp director as appropriate.
  • Secure all recreation equipment (miniature golf supplies put away and locked, paddle boats locked, basketball equipment, baseball equipment, tennis equipment, volley ball equipment, balls, fishing equipment locked in the storage closet, game room equipment storage locked, etc.) at the end of each recreation time. Inspect equipment, and report any problems or needs to Camp Director.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and campers; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about campers, co-workers and supervisors.

Qualifications:



  • Must be certified in High Ropes/ Climbing tower facilitation to lead activity.
  • Must be a team player, a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Understand and support the goals and objectives of The Salvation Army Camping program.
  • Requires good communication and leadership skills and be able to work in a variety of climates and weather related conditions.
