Summary Description:

Electrical Engineer is responsible for carring out various responsibilities wihich will assist in ensuring dependable supply and generation of electric power for customers of Consolidated Water Power Company, a public utility providing power to one Billerud division, three other paper manufacturers and other local businesses and households. The role includes supporting the day-to-day hydro and power distribution operations requirements with operational events that arise. The successful candidate must have a wide business background combined with a broad technical skillset in electrical engineering and/or power generation.

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide engineering assistance needed to support the transmission, distribution & hydrogeneration at Consolidated Water Power Company.
  • Carry out Consolidated Water Power Company projects including estimating, scheduling, and ordering activities; work with Billerud/outside Engineering personnel in carrying out these projects.
  • Maintain and upgrade computer networks and systems.
  • Review designs and systems provided by different uses/equipment and suppliers for power company facilities and services to ensure suitability for power company requirements.
  • Ensure that safe procedures are followed in all areas of responsibility & provide training to the dispatchers and maintenance for safe dam operations.
  • Provide relief for maintenance Supervisor during vacations and other short term absences.
  • Design and maintain the Scada System.
  • Design and maintain Hydrogeneration and Automation equipment.
  • Design and maintain the metering equipment required for billing and FERC reporting.
  • Manage and maintain CWPCOs Electrical Testing Program to insure the breakers, relays and meters are able to operate properly and to comply with all applical regulations.
  • Develop and manage CWPCos electrical capital projects.
  • Respond to emergency calls after hours, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, electrical group, local utility and governmental officials and the public.
  • Maintain and update various records including maintenance records, blueprints, etc.
Personal qualities

Required Experience and Education:

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education, technical training and experience
  • Social, leadership, and communication skills to engage key customers and stakeholders

Travel: Negotiable

Required skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate.
  • Working knowledge of the utility businesses and functional areas.
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical abilities, and computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Strong technical, problem solving, decision-making, and project management skills.
  • Self-starter able to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to work in a flexible work environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues.
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems, including short circuit analysis, protective relaying coordination basics, arc flash and load flow studies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Microsoft toolsets include Servers / Active Directory / WSUS
  • SQL database knowledge with the ability to extract and manage large databases
  • AutoCAD drawing design and programming skills
