Grounds Contract Maintenance Manager

Grounds management with emphasis on tree, shrub, and turf care; operational safety procedures; diagnosis of plant pest problems; the safe use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides used regularly; rainbird irrigation systems and controllers; and leadership techniques and supervisor theories.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Responsible for the grounds of Womack Army Medical Center and 31 outlying clinics
• Directly supervisors up to 15 employees.
• Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Assigns and reviews work duties of the grounds crew to ensure work is done in a safe and productive manner.
• Oversees tree & shrub maintenance operations and makes recommendations for changes, improvements, and equipment.
• Requests proposals, reviews costs/benefits, and purchases goods or services with project manager approval.
• Attends staff meetings and other required training.
• Cooperates with other departmental personnel in completing assigned tasks.
• Retains contractors and coordinates their work.
• Assures timely completion of work requests and preventative maintenance.
• Oversees irrigation operation, schedules, and maintenance, and coordinates annual start up and shut down procedures.
• Provides safe environment by supervising and coordinating the removal of snow, ice, leaves, fallen branches, and other weather-related debris and trash.
• Oversees application of chemicals & fertilizers evenly and accurately as instructed on product labels as part of an integrated pest management plan.
• Remains u to date and informed on current landscaping maintenance practices.
• Coordinates maintenance and repairs on grounds vehicles and equipment.
• Maintains an appropriate inventory of materials, chemicals, and equipment.
• Maintains SOS records on chemicals.
• Required to work outside normal schedule due to seasonal events, weather conditions, and operational requirements.
• Essential personnel during inclement weather
• Reviews and approves timesheets and vacation scheduling of grounds personnel.
• Conducts disciplinary actions and documentation on grounds personnel as needed meeting the CBA & corporate guidelines.
• Provides documentation and reports on the grounds activities as requested by project manager and facility management division.
