Position Summary: Responsible for acquiring, purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment and supplies.

Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Personnel: Not applicable.

Accountabilities: Accountable for understanding and following all SOPs and WIs related to job duties while supporting 6S and Lean Manufacturing concepts. Ensure all purchases are made in a timely manner at the best value to Major Tool. Utilize analytical skills to optimize inventory levels and ensure the timely availability of materials required for operations.

Create internal work orders and analyze MRP information in order to initiate raw material purchases.

Communicate regularly with vendors to resolve delivery issues as well as provide forecasts.

Keep track of critical part numbers and any items impacting production. Ensure that production cadence is supported

Authorities: Issue purchase orders on behalf of Major Tool within guidelines and set-up internal work orders based on customer firm orders

The planner also initiates the purchase of raw material based on MRP requirements.

Duties:

  • Generate purchase orders for tooling, weld wire, shop supplies, maintenance items, and material requirements as needed.
  • Verify nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
  • Search inventory records or warehouse to determine if material on hand is in sufficient quantity.
  • Solicit price and lead time information form the supply base. Evaluate vendors' quotes and services to determine if they are compatible with company objectives.
  • Assist in material planning, generate purchase orders and follow up on delivery for production facility orders.
  • Input all changes into the purchasing system, including inventory purchase orders, price changes, and system updates.
  • Research invoice discrepancies and approve invoices for payment as required by Accounts Payable.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card statements in a timely manner and maintain accurate documentation for purchases made on the card.
  • Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery as determined by the Visual Mfg. and requestors' schedules.
  • Arrange transportation with MTM truck and outside delivery services as required.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery, and terms of sale with suppliers.
  • Recommend and process documentation to set up new vendors.
  • Perform on-site audits of suppliers as required, maintain status as ISO auditor.
  • Investigate and follow up on vendor related non-conformances.
  • Provide costing support for Engineering and Sales during the estimating process.
  • Act as backup for Procurement Specialist and Subcontract Administrator as required.
  • Set-up internal work orders
  • Initiate raw material purchases
  • Attend weekly production/purchasing meetings
  • Maintain MRP information regarding lead times, costs, and revision level for both new and existing part numbers
  • Analyze data to identify trends and recommend improvements in supply chain processes
  • Prepare and present reports on inventory performance and material availability to stakeholders.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field

Requires basic blueprint reading.

Certification in APICS (CPIM or CSCP) or other relevant supply chain certifications

Experience - Basic computer skills. Requires some previous related experience and demonstrated administrative ability in the above listed duties.

  • 3+ years of experience in materials planning or inventory management within a manufacturing environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
  • Understanding of basic ERP/MRP principals
  • Ability to discern meaningful data points and report data in a way that is both understandable and statistically accurate
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and accomplish business goals and objectives.
  • Visual Manufacturing experience a plus but not required

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.

Certification Required - Must have a valid driver's license.

Visual Acuity - Accommodation as required for reading computer screens and documents.

Hearing Ability - Accommodations as required to communicate with internal and external customers.

Working Conditions - Normally works in an office environment. Very rarely, the employee may be subject to:

  • shop floor environment
  • high noise levels from operating machines
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids
  • welding flashes.

Some travel may be required as needed.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

Attendance is an essential job function.

Employees will operate in compliance of all recognized standards that Major Tool adheres to (such as AS9100, ISO 9000), including all supporting policies and procedures.
