This role will focus on designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data platforms to support our marketing and product analytics initiatives. This role will require you to collaborate closely with analytics, product, and IT teams to ensure that data flows seamlessly and efficiently, supporting high-quality data insights. Your work will play a key role in enabling Optum to make data-driven decisions that improve our product offerings and customer engagement.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, implement, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines for collecting, processing, and transforming large volumes of structured and unstructured data from various sources to ensure data is readily available for analysis and reporting
  • Database Management: Build, maintain, and optimize scalable data warehouses and databases using tools such as SQL, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar platforms. Ensure high data quality, accuracy, and reliability
  • Collaboration with Analytics Teams: Partner with data analysts and data scientists to understand data requirements, provide data engineering support, and ensure that data structures and pipelines align with business goals
  • Data Quality Assurance: Develop processes for data validation, testing, and error handling to ensure data integrity across all platforms and pipelines
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design and manage data infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and implement best practices for data storage, compute optimization, and security compliance
  • Automation and Optimization: Automate repetitive tasks, implement data processing improvements, and optimize data pipelines to improve efficiency and performance
  • Documentation and Best Practices: Create and maintain detailed documentation of data architecture, data pipelines, and data governance standards. Promote best practices and mentor junior team members on data engineering principles

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or similar roles, with a solid background in building and optimizing data pipelines and architectures. Solid background in coding/navigating/troubleshooting highly complex data models
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure Databricks, AWS, Azure, GCP), including services such as Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar
  • Hands-on experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Databricks, Apache Airflow, AWS Glue) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Domo) to support data workflows and monitoring
  • Solid proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and management; experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala
  • Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data integration, and data transformation
  • Familiarity with data modeling, schema design, and relational and non-relational database systems
  • Proven excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach to ensuring data reliability
  • Proven solid analytical skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Proven excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present insights to both technical and non-technical audiences



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with Marketing Automation engines (Eloqua, Marketo, SalesForce, etc)
  • Experience running Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models
  • Experience using and navigating source control (GitHub)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps principles
  • Solid understanding of SQL query performance
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
  • Knowledge of data governance and data security best practices, including HIPAA compliance

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
