Job Overview

Responsible for the proper functioning of all electrical systems through preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement and the installation of new systems. Repair, install, replace and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using hand tools and testing instruments to supply electrical lighting and equipment operations in the hospital.

Location: Melrose/Wakefield Hospital - 585 Lebanon Street - Melrose, MA

Hours: 40 hours - 2nd Shift: 2:30pm - 11:00pm

Every other weekend and Every other holiday shifts required

Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent

2. Licensed as an electrician

3. Three (3) years of experience as an electrician

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned

1. Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment, using testing instruments, such as ammeter, ohmmeter and volt meter and testing lamp.

2. Examines and tests such elements of system as panel distribution, controls, emergency generators, circuit fixtures and motors to locate obvious faults such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections and worn motor brushes.

3. Repairs electrical circuits and equipment. Replace faulty switches, socket plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements of electrical systems as found in the hospital and in carious departments such as Laundry, Dietary and Laboratory.

4. Renews circuits whether by isolating and cutting of broken wires and replacing with new wiring of by splicing ends of broken wires.

5. Dismantles electrical machinery with hand tools and unsolders or unscrews wiring connections. Replaces such defective mechanical parts as brushes, armatures, commutators and transformers, assembling components according to diagrams.

6. Checks clearance of moving parts with precision gauges. Restores electrical connections to complete circuits.

Cuts and shapes conduit with hand tools and fastens it in place with brackets or similarly installs armored cable. Fastens fixtures, switches and outlet boxes in position. Runs wire through conduit and makes connections to complete circuits.

7. Assembles, installs and connects components of switchboards and distribution panels and connects them to units controlled. Mounts motors, transformers, lighting fixtures or other equipment into position, completes circuits according to diagram specifications.

8. Required to enforce leakage testing program to insure safe levels of all electrical equipment directly associated with patients. Able to take conductive readings on conductive flooring and report records of readings.

9. Tests generators on a weekly basis and under full load once per month to check emergency power source. Be familiar with selected emergency service of entire hospital.

10. Depending on hospital needs, may perform related general maintenance tasks such as leaking faucets, running toilets, clogged drains, broken belts, fuses, light bulbs, repair beds, repair carpet tears, repair driveways/parking areas, replacing glass windows, ceiling tile, building scaffolding, concrete forms, assisting other craftsmen in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.

11. Depending on Hallmark Health needs, may be asked to perform general maintenance tasks at other facilities. These include all "Outside Properties" and Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

12.Participates in all snow removal and sanding functions.

13. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
