This teacher position will support the development of Individual Education Plans for students with special education needs as well as support the implementation of these plans at the school/educational site level. Other responsibilities will include creating and delivering professional development and consultation services to school personnel in a variety of areas such as effective programming and instruction, use of formal and informal assessments, data analysis and inclusive practices. Qualifications Education Requirements: The position requires a current lifetime license from the list below: Teachers for grades K-12 A valid, special education teaching license (1810, 1811, 1830, 1808, 1809 or 1801) in one of the following developmental levels: early childhood, middle childhood/early adolescence, early adolescence/adolescence, or early childhood/adolescence. Experience Requirements: The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of fully-licensed teaching experience. Responsibilities Supports special education teachers in the development of IEPs that meet DPI's compliance standards and are designed to support the educational progress of special education students. Assists special education teachers in the effective use of assessment data to ensure the academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional growth of students. Participates in the development and enhancement of a district-wide culture that promotes professional growth and student learning. Knowledge of a variety of topics including but not limited to: Criteria and characteristics of the disabilities; The special education evaluation process; The Individual Education Plan development process; Formative and standardized assessments; The use of data analysis to determine student strengths and areas requiring targeted instruction; IEP development based upon the Common Core State Standards and Common Core Essential Elements Inclusive Practices Evidence based strategies to target academic and/or behavioral needs of students Child and brain development Neurodivergent learners Assistive Technology Early Childhood Working with students identified with most significant disabilities District adopted curriculum aligned with alternate achievement standards Assists special education and regular education teachers in providing quality and comprehensive programming for children with special education needs including but not limited to: Consultation and support to staff in the areas of identifying and understanding students with disabilities; Consultation and support to staff in the areas of inclusive practices, transitioning and Dissemination and explanation of professional information to school staff. Provides consultation on and demonstration of innovative methods, strategies, and materials which enhance the educational progress of special education students. Develops and presents professional development on a variety of topics to district and school personnel individually, in small group and in large group settings. Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan. Performs other duties as assigned.
