INSTRUCTIONAL COACH - MUSIC

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Coach: Music (Grades K-12) candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

The Instructional Coach - Music position is a non-evaluative, non-supervisory teacher position that will work collaboratively with district music personnel, other Instructional Coaches, classroom Teachers, and District Instructional Leaders to support, monitor, and report on the implementation of district instructional strategies.

Music Instructional Coaches will be assigned to the Fine Arts Department in the Department of Teaching and Learning.

The Music Instructional Coach will be a content expert in K-12 general, instrumental, or vocal music. This individual will observe, co-plan, co-teach, and coach music teachers at all levels with a focus on K-8 instruction. Experience in urban schools is preferred.

Working environment: Typical office or school environment. Position may be required to work additional hours, outside of the normal business day.

• A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience as a fully certified teacher is required.
• A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience teaching music or coaching music teachers in an urban public-school setting is required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Valid Professional Educator's License with K-12 music certification required.
• Experience using instructional technologies to improve student performance.
• Experience in a leadership role within a diverse, multicultural teaching and learning environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Use effective coaching and facilitation skills; willingness to pursue advanced coaching training.
• Possess knowledge of and ability to demonstrate appropriate use of district adopted and approved resources, particularly Quaver and Soundtrap.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, balance responsibilities, and maintain mission-oriented focus.
• Consistently project a positive, team-oriented disposition.
• Effectively manage time and resources across multiple assigned locations.

• Spends a majority (with a minimum of 50%) of work time in schools and classrooms (travels) while students are present.
• Provides constructive, content-specific feedback to foster high quality instruction
• Provides job-embedded coaching to improve planning for and implementation of standards-based instruction
• Creates and facilitates professional development
  • on the use and implementation of standards-based curricula
  • on the use of effective classroom systems and procedures
  • on the use of instructional strategies that engage all learners
• Collaborates with music teachers to design and implement standards-based lessons using district adopted materials and resources
• Collaborates with music teachers to design formative and summative assessments and rubrics based on Wisconsin Music Standards
• Models and co-teaches effective, research based instructional strategies
• Reviews, refines and develops music resources for district use, e.g., professional development, instructional guides, sample lessons, and classroom assessments
• Collaborates with community partners to develop resources for music teaching and learning
• Maintains accurate schedules and records; efficiently completes paperwork
• Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan
• Perform other duties as assigned

Salary $55,317 - $103,599 (200-day calendar)

Placement on the salary schedule is based on years of fully licensed teaching/pupil services experience in a k-12 setting and education beyond a bachelor's degree.
