Are you seeking a rewarding job with excellent benefits? The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply for the Manager of Bus and Mobility Training position, playing a vital role in providing customer service to the citizens of Maryland daily.

The Manager of Bus and Mobility Training is responsible for managing, directing, monitoring, and reporting on all training and development initiatives for MTA Bus Transportation, Mobility Transportation, Bus Maintenance, Field Supervision, and Operations Control Center (BOCC) Training. This role includes leading a team of Certified Professional Transportation and Union Instructors and arranging and facilitating training classes as necessary.

The Manager ensures the accuracy of training reporting through the MTA-wide Learning Management System (LMS) database, maintaining up-to-date records for all Bus/Mobility employees. Responsibilities include generating requisitions (PUR-1s), writing statements of work, requisition justifications, and other documents to facilitate the procurement process as needed. Monthly reports on training data are prepared, ensuring compliance and accountability.

In addition, this position supervises Bus/Mobility Instructors and an Administrative Assistant, conducting efficiency ride checks, approving leave, and performing annual performance appraisals. The Manager schedules professional development opportunities for instructors and conducts regular staff meetings. Furthermore, they develop strategic directions for learning that align with MTA's mission, vision, and goals, ensuring classrooms are equipped and organized for each training session.

Safety Responsibilities

Managers play a key role in creating a positive safety culture by setting up safety practices and procedures. They must attend safety meetings, enforce safety rules, and ensure all employees are trained to perform their jobs safely. It is essential to report any hazards, unsafe actions, or accidents immediately to the Office of Safety. Regularly conducting safety risk assessments is vital for a safe work environment. If someone does not follow safety protocols, they may face disciplinary action.

Location & Reporting

The current vacancy is located in Baltimore City, MD. Based on departmental needs, occasional travel and telecommuting may be necessary. This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Training.




Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of administrative or professional work experience is required, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Three (3) years of this experience must include instructor-led training in transportation or maintenance operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for two (2) years is required.
