Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Operations Unit reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for the planning, repair, renovation and maintenance of all NCCU facilities.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to conduct assessment of equipment performance by personal inspection, operation and review of operator comment; makes periodic preventive maintenance inspections of equipment through road tests or other means, and determines necessary repair work to be done. Inspects all vehicles and decides whether inside or contracted repairs are needed. Inspects and approves all outside vendor repairs. Works with members in other departments in maintaining automotive equipment; work with outside garages, automotive dealers, parts suppliers and vendors. Removes, repairs, reassembles and fuel pumps, starters and generators in addition to all parts contained in the motor block or other assemblies on power mowers and John Deere Gator vehicles. Removes, repairs, and replaces hydraulic controls and assemblies and other parts of tractors, gator, polaris and front-end loaders. Performs minor repairs on automobiles and trucks and repairs small hand tools such as weed eaters, electric shears, etc.; Prepares equipment reports and/or completes work order for repair work done; submits requisitions for needed materials; purchases emergency supplies as needed in order to make necessary repairs; receives requisitioned materials; submits receiving reports and maintains stock records; assists with special events periodically, such as driver, event setup and breakdown. Read and interpret wiring diagrams of vehicles & electronic components, evaluate and program new equipment, diagnose and replace or repair installed older or new components. Monitor inventory and keep up with new innovations & make informed suggestions to improve efficiency of installations. Maintain database for all facility vehicles to include service and maintenance records.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines and in departments where repair work involves such equipment; knowledge in the basic operation, adjustment, and repair of highway vehicles and support equipment such as pickup truck, bucket truck, dump truck, electrical vehicle, street sweeper, tractor, back hoe and gator; knowledge of the tools and equipment found in automotive repair garages as well as the use of such tools and equipment; knowledge of the methods of adjusting and repairing the generating, ignition, and electrical wiring systems found in automotive equipment; knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) Applications; ability to diagnose the causes of operating defects in automotive and highway equipment and to make effective repairs in such cases; ability to estimate future material requirements; ability to read and comprehend repair manuals, diagnose defects in operation, perform inspections, determine repair methods and procedures, maintain repair and maintenance records, and exhibit physical strength; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
ASE Certified preferred.
