Position Overview:

We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Vice President of Architecture with deep expertise in the Justice market to lead, expand, and elevate our national Justice practice. This executive-level position requires an accomplished licensed architect who will serve as the face of our Justice sector, driving market growth, operational excellence, design innovation, and strategic partnerships. Reporting to the firm's executive leadership, this individual will be responsible for sector-wide performance, including P&L accountability, business development leadership, staff development, and client satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall strategic direction, growth planning, and performance of the Justice architecture portfolio across all markets and geographies.
  • Set and achieve ambitious business goals, including revenue growth, margin improvement, and market share expansion within the Justice sector.
  • Serve as a primary executive liaison to key clients, industry leaders, and government stakeholders; build deep, trusted partnerships that support long-term engagement and repeat business.
  • Drive go-to-market strategy and client acquisition in coordination with firm leadership and marketing, ensuring differentiated positioning in the Justice architecture space.
  • Guide and oversee project execution from master planning through design delivery, ensuring alignment with client objectives, regulatory standards, and the firm's design excellence standards.
  • Foster and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams composed of in-house architecture, engineering, and planning disciplines, as well as external consultants and justice sector specialists.
  • Serve as an executive design leader-mentoring project teams, setting quality benchmarks, and influencing key design decisions for complex, high-visibility projects.
  • Maintain oversight of financial health across the Justice portfolio, including resource forecasting, staffing strategies, budget tracking, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with internal operations, marketing, and business line leaders to ensure integrated delivery and maximize firmwide impact.
  • Represent the firm at national justice-focused conferences, thought leadership forums, and industry coalitions to strengthen our brand and advocacy role.
  • Lead the capture of major pursuits, including strategy, team formation, proposal development, and presentations-ensuring competitive differentiation and win strategy alignment.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging policy, funding trends, and legislation that impact the justice sector and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Develop and mentor a robust leadership bench within the Justice practice, emphasizing succession planning, career development, and diversity of perspectives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Professional Architecture Degree from an accredited school.
  • Active architectural license (RA) required, with NCARB certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 15-20 years of progressive architectural experience, including executive leadership in the Justice sector.
  • Proven record of successfully leading large-scale justice projects, securing new business, and managing sector P&L.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and business acumen with demonstrated success in market development and revenue growth.
  • Deep knowledge of justice sector best practices, standards, guidelines, and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities; able to lead diverse, distributed, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of BIM, digital design, and design review tools; proficiency in Revit a plus; advocate for technology adoption and design process innovation.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, including experience presenting to boards, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for client and project needs.
