POSITION SPECIFICS

Postdoctoral Research Opportunity in Artificial Intelligence and Automated Vehicles
Larson Transportation Institute, College of Engineering, Pennsylvania State University

The Larson Transportation Institute (LTI) at Penn State's College of Engineering is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic team in advancing the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automated Vehicles (AV). This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in smart mobility, particularly in the areas of connected and automated vehicles and the application of advanced AI models to AV systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Artificial Intelligence, Automated Vehicles, Control, Robotics, Computer Vision, or related disciplines.

  • Proven expertise and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: large language models (LLMs), end-to-end learning, AV localization, perception, prediction, control, connected vehicle, cooperative driving automation, AV testing, or AI applications in transportation engineering.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • A demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research, supported by a strong publication and presentation record.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong background in AI/machine learning, mathematical modeling, and programming.

  • Extensive practical experience in AV development, testing, or simulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in research projects focused on AI applications in autonomous vehicles.

  • Publish high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, external academic researchers, and industry partners.

  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in preparing grant proposals and securing external funding.
