Part-Time Lecturer - Machine Design

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University invites applications for a part-time lecturer to teach ME 41: Engineering Design II, a junior-level, three-credit course offered in-person during the Fall 2025 semester.

This course focuses on machine applications, component analysis, load analysis, free body diagrams, analytical modeling, finite element analysis, failure modes, stress concentrations, failure theories, machine design component selection, applications, materials, and loading conditions. Responsibilities include delivering engaging lectures, developing assignments and assessments, facilitating two team-based projects, and supporting student learning through office hours and feedback.

The selected candidate will teach one of the scheduled course sections:

- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00-1:15 PM, or

- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30-2:45 PM

The department, which is dedicated to growing its research base while maintaining excellence in teaching, has core disciplines in four areas: (1) Thermal Fluid Systems, (2) Material Mechanics and Processing, (3) Robotic, Aeronautic and Automated Systems, and (4) Product Design and Human Factors. We are looking for experienced engineers with strong teaching and communication skills who can bring the breadth of their experience to juniors in mechanical engineering. Graduate degree (M.Sc. at a minimum, Ph.D. preferred) or equivalent industry experience is required. We will give preference to engineers whose experience is directly related to machine design and who have previously demonstrated exceptional teaching skills
