A Brief Overview

The Epic Principal Trainer will be an integral part of the electronic medical record team who will work with the Training Manager and Application Analysts to develop and deliver the Epic training program for all roles under their application. This dynamic candidate must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. The candidate best fit for this role must have a background in instructional design/ curriculum development and knowledge of adult learning methods. They must also possess excellent presentation skills, strong technical documentation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Lastly, the ideal candidate must have a technical aptitude for working with a dynamic Electronic Medical Record and an ability to assist our end user population with adopting and effectively using this technology.

What You Will Do



  • Developing role-based training content and instructional materials, independently or with team members, using a variety of software programs, tools, and applications (such as Microsoft Office). Presenting this information verbally and in writing in a clear and easy-to-understand manner. (20%)
  • Coordinating training for new software releases and updates by acting as a liaison between the build team and the end user and providing the Project Management team with identified risks and concerns. (15%)
  • Learning new content and consulting with subject matter experts to develop training materials and answer any participant questions. (10%)
  • Building, testing and maintaining training environments, and providing support and troubleshooting issues. (10%)
  • Collaborating with other trainers by co-facilitating classroom instruction and assisting with exercises as needed and following up with trainees outside of the classroom to offer additional support. (10%)
  • Serving as an expert educator to internal staff. Training and credentialing additional classroom trainers as needed. Training staff and end users by teaching technical topics as needed. (10%)
  • Managing projects by prioritizing projects and by creating and adhering to timelines and participating in special projects as needed. (10%)
  • Uploading key knowledge objects to knowledge repository for use by other IT associates and end users and striving to create, leverage, and communicate structured, repeatable, improvable processes to IT. (10%)
  • Incorporating feedback from others into existing training and training administration procedures and preparing training lessons, printing materials, and setting up the training room and environment prior to the training session. (5%)

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
