POSITION SPECIFICS

The Penn State Office of Physical Plant (OPP), the University's central facilities division, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Marketing and Communications Specialist to lead the development of high-quality content and strategic communications for diverse internal and external audiences. This pivotal role involves shaping key messages and producing impactful communication deliverables on a wide range of facilities-related topics, including major campus construction and renovation projects, energy savings initiatives, University operations (e.g., groundskeeping, maintenance, custodial), safety, and more. The successful candidate will be a highly organized and collaborative self-starter with exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills, capable of managing multiple high-priority assignments, meeting tight deadlines, and adapting to evolving priorities.

This is a full-time position and may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The Marketing and Communications team is supportive of flexible work arrangements when aligned with the ability to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Content Development:Research and translate complex subject matter into compelling content for various media, including presentations, websites, newsletters, digital and printed signage, and more.

  • Comprehensive Communications Planning:Develop and execute robust communications plans tailored to multiple audiences, including senior leaders, employees, external stakeholders, community members, and news media.

  • Digital Platform Management:Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of OPP's digital platforms, including the employee intranet, website, and social media accounts.

  • Event and Strategic Initiative Support:Create written and visual assets for large-scale organizational events and strategic initiatives, including invitations, flyers, presentations, and speaker remarks.

  • Digital Signage Design:Design high-quality, engaging digital signage for both employee and visitor audiences.

  • Photography and Visual Asset Creation:Capture high-quality photographs of campus and employee gatherings, landscapes, architecture, outdoor spaces, and more to support the organization's visual communication needs.

  • Leadership Communication Support:Provide strategic communication recommendations and support to OPP leaders, including senior leadership team members, supervisors, and unit departments.

  • Brand and Editorial Standards:Ensure adherence to University brand standards and industry editorial and style guidelines.

Successful Candidate will have the following skills:

  • Exceptional Writing and Communication Skills:Demonstrated ability to craft audience-specific communications that resonate with diverse target groups.

  • Strong Verbal and Interpersonal Skills:Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise on communications strategies for large-scale organizational initiatives.

  • Proactive and Collaborative:A self-starter who works effectively both independently and as part of integrated teams.

  • Highly Organized and Detail-Oriented:Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Adaptable and Resilient:Comfortable operating in a dynamic environment and responding to changing priorities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, photo/video editing software, and graphic design tools.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
