Operations Coordinator - Recovery Home

Job Objective: Recovery Home Operations Associate Director will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Recovery Home operations and nonprofessional staff. This position works directly with men and women in early recovery, providing structure and support to the individuals seeking to establish stable long-term recovery from a substance use disorder.

Essential Functions:



  • Responsible for overall functions and operations of the Recovery Home
  • Meet with each client a minimum of once a month to update their progress on nonrecovery issues
  • Maintain reports and records in appropriate files
  • Provide and coordinate education and groups to clients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance
  • Facilitate and/or Co-facilitate weekly Recovery House staff meetings
  • Provide a clear outline of the responsibilities of the client in terms of daily chores and clean-up.
  • Coordinate with the Lead Life Skills Coach to create the schedule of unit duties, menus, Life Skills classes, food orders, field trips, and other activities
  • Coordinate transportation with the client for outside functions
  • Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible
  • Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and needs regarding recovery
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the client's goals and interests; this will involve a collaborative effort including the client, agency staff and other relevant stakeholders
  • Represent the Recovery Home at Community Outreach Events and other engagements
  • Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency
  • Coordinate with internal programs to provide optional opportunities for clients in the Recovery Home, including Spiritual, music, computer, employment, and volunteer opportunities
  • Schedule staff for program coverage within the program budget
  • Supervise all nonprofessional staff of the Recovery Home
  • Maintain the daily programming schedule, with the input of the Social Service Director and other staff members
  • Monitor and implement the house rules, policies and procedures of the Recovery Home
  • Maintain confidential client records and/or data in a secure manner; complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain required training hours for staff
  • Maintain open communication with Social Services Director and Area Commanders and other staff as it relates to the necessary flow of the job and programs
  • Network with internal and external programs that can benefit the clients in the Recovery Home
  • Maintain and update the Recovery Home Client Manual as needed, with the input of the Social Service Director and other staff members
  • Assure all food safety, fire safety, and health safety procedures are followed and documented, including equipment monitoring
  • Report all building needs for repairs or maintenance on the work order system
  • Other duties as assigned by the Social Service Director


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor degree in social work, substance abuse counseling, psychology, or a related field required. Relevant experience, as determined by The Salvation Army, may be considered in lieu of education requirement

Experience: Two years' work experience in substance abuse treatment; shared experience and a minimum of three years of sobriety needed; knowledge of community resources. Two years of supervisor experience.

Certifications/Licenses: NCRS, or Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor, or Peer Support Specialist preferred or 2 years of experience in supervision and working in the field of addiction/homelessness

Must have Safety Food Handler Manager's Certificate within 30 days of employment

Supervisory Responsibility: Lead Life Skills Coach, two PT Life Skills Coaches, Resident Monitor

Physical Requirements: Employee must have the ability to sustain physical activity both inside and outside for extended periods of time. Work requires ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel and lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is required; employee must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence; must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business

Working Conditions: The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a medium to high noise level. Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and substance abuse or addiction. At times may be required to serve as substitute program monitor.
