Job Overview
The technical writer writes and edits technical reports, brochures, and/or manuals for internal documentation, customer reference, or publication. This person researches and analyzes available literature and verifies copy with appropriate departments and may coordinate production and distribution of materials. The position will be responsible for creating comprehensive and accurate technical documentation by translating complex technical information into clear, user-friendly content, often leading projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring documentation quality while possessing strong writing, editing, communication, and technical knowledge skills. Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Produce high-quality documentation like user guides, API references, white papers, training materials, and release notes, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Strong understanding of the navigation systems being documented, including the technical features and functionalities.
- Work closely with engineers, and other team members to gather information, clarify requirements, and ensure documentation aligns with product development.
- Define documentation scope, outlining project timelines, and managing the overall documentation process.
- Maintain and update existing documentation to reflect product changes and new features.
- Review and edit technical documentation to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to style guides.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in technical documentation.
- Conduct thorough research to gather accurate technical information.
- Provide guidance and training to junior technical writers.
- Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
- Understanding of relevant technical domains, including programming languages, software development methodologies, and system architectures.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences to gather information and explain complex concepts.
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams to gather information and align documentation with product development.
- Plan, prioritize, and manage documentation projects to meet deadlines.
- Expertise in using authoring tools, content management systems, and other relevant software for creating and publishing technical documentation.
- Create visually appealing documentation using graphics and diagrams.

- Ability to effectively communicate with all team members.
- Skilled in effectively managing and prioritizing taskings.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Three (3) years of professional experience in technical writing/editing.
- Current active TS/SCI Clearance.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred:
- Bachelors degree in any related field.
- Familiarization of the Shore Installation Process Handbook V5.0.
- Well versed in government style documentation to include but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). System Operation & Verification Testing (SOVT).
Working Conditions:
- Position may be exposed to and is expected to protect internal/external confidential/unclassified information.
- Work is generally performed indoors (sedentary).
- Outdoor work, if any, is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional travel may be necessary however not anticipated.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell.
- May include lifting weight up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary.
