RN Quality Charge Specialist

Job Overview

This position supervises services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

Location: Remote/Hybrid- Needs to be onsite, once per quarter for meetings

Hours: 30 Hours- Days- Weekend and Holiday Rotation Required

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Massachusetts RN Licensure.

2. Three (3) years of relevant clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

2. Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Accurately and completely identifies all nursing technical and procedural charges.
  • Facilitates charge capture for services and care provided for each patient.
  • Reviews medical records for process charges.
  • Conducts analysis of identified quality improvement data.
  • Analyzes and confirms facility charge level for each patient and any necessary modifiers.
  • Educates nursing staff on proper method to document nursing procedures and medications.
  • Maintains an acceptable level of accuracy and productivity rate for capturing all charges reflected on nursing technical and procedural charge code master form, based on internal and external quality improvement audits.
  • Trains new employees and as needed, follows-up in collaboration with the manager and director when areas of opportunities are identified.
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship and communication with the Health Information Department to assure timely completion of charge capture for the Emergency Department.
  • Ensures all elements of the paper record are collated and sensitive information is managed appropriately.
  • Responds promptly and efficiently to charge capture issues, concerns.
  • Assesses problem accounts promptly and notify supervisor as necessary.
  • Identifies missing or inaccurate information during chart audits.
  • Completes analysis of moderate sedation cases for quality assurance.
  • Provides feedback to staff and/or clinical manager and director, as needed.
