Electrical Engineering (mid-level to high-level)
Job Title: Electrical Engineer (All Levels: Junior, Mid, Senior)
Location: Manassas, VA

Overview:
ACARA Solutions and our client in Manassas, VA are seeking talented Electrical Engineers at all career levels to join a dynamic team developing cutting-edge electronics for military and defense applications. This is a great opportunity to work on impactful projects supporting the U.S. Navy, with roles available for engineers ranging from recent graduates to seasoned technical experts.
Key Responsibilities:
Depending on your level of experience, responsibilities may include:
Design & Development
  • Develop new and modify existing electronic hardware, including custom PCB designs.
  • Design and analyze analog and digital electronic circuits, including signal conditioning and communication interfaces.
  • Design and analyze AC-DC and DC-DC power systems and power control architectures.
  • Design cable assemblies for system interconnects and subsystems.
Integration & Testing
  • Integrate and test electrical hardware systems in lab and field environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues at the circuit, board, and system level.
  • Develop test criteria, test plans, and assist in the design of test systems.
Documentation & Communication
  • Generate design documentation, schematics, interface control documents, and bill of materials.
  • Develop technical presentations and reports to communicate engineering solutions to program management and Navy customers.
Systems Engineering
  • Perform trade studies on components and architectures to identify optimal system-level solutions using COTS and industry technologies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, and systems teams to ensure cohesive product development.
Qualifications:
Required (All Levels):
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design and simulation.
  • Knowledge of PCB layout and design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics).
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
Mid-Level Candidates:
  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Proven ability to design, build, and test hardware systems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
Senior-Level Candidates:
  • 5-8+ years of experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Ability to lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and drive architecture decisions.
  • Experience interacting with government or military customers is a strong plus.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD and ruggedized hardware environments.
  • Experience with signal integrity analysis, EMC/EMI considerations, and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to obtain or hold a U.S. security clearance.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation, and test phases.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in analog and digital circuit design.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with lab equipment, including signal generators, high-speed oscilloscopes, and digital logic analyzers.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461 design and qualification.
  • Experience designing and debugging switch-mode DC-DC converters, including knowledge of control loop stability analysis.
  • Experience designing and debugging 3-phase AC-DC conversion, including transformer design.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience with firmware or microcontrollers.
  • Experience with VHDL/Verilog.
  • OrCAD Capture experience.
  • Working knowledge of standard communication interfaces such as RS-422, RS-485, and LVDS.
  • Proficiency in all PCB design phases, including creating high-level functional and architectural diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry, and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, and fitment.
  • Good documentation and communication skills.
