Job Description:

The Network Field Technician Level 1 will be responsible for performing on-site network hardware installations, device replacements, access point deployments, relocations, and structured cabling management in support of the central network engineering team. This role requires 90% travel to various field locations, with 10% in-office work for team collaboration, training, and documentation.

Under the direction of the Network Operations Manager, the Network Field Technician Level 1 will conduct field visits to troubleshoot, install, and maintain networking equipment, ensuring optimal network performance. The technician will also work closely with the engineering team to extend and support enterprise networking solutions in various locations.

This position is ideal for a hands-on technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can work independently with minimal supervision, and has a solid understanding of networking principles, structured cabling, and hardware deployment.

The company headquarters is located in Waltham, MA.

"Gauges" of Responsibility

  • Travel to field locations to perform network device installations, replacements, and relocations, including switches, routers, access points, and related hardware.

  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate network infrastructure needs and provide basic recommendations for improvements.

  • Perform structured cabling work, including cable routing, terminations, and troubleshooting.

  • Assist with network expansions and upgrades as directed by the central engineering team.

  • Assist in access point placement and configurations.

  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues on-site, working in coordination with the central network engineering team for resolutions.

  • Document site work, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for future references.

  • Ensure adherence to company security policies and best practices when handling networking equipment.

  • Provide timely updates on fieldwork, escalating issues to the central engineering team as necessary.

  • Maintain a strong customer service approach when interacting with on-site personnel.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in a network technician, field service, or similar IT role preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with on-site personnel.

  • Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of network diagnostic tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, Wireshark) is a plus.

  • This role requires 90% travel to various locations. The majority of the work will be performed on- site at field locations.

  • Travel is primarily within the New England and Northeast regions, with occasional travel outside these areas.

  • A valid driver's license is required

Educational Requirement

  • High School Diploma Required

  • Associate degree or technical certification in networking or a related field is preferred.
