This position is funded for 1 year(s); continuation past 1 year(s) will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. This is a/an 77% full-time equivalency (FTE) job with months off. The number of months off will be determined by the position's FTE percentage. The timing of months off will be set to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. The salary grade and range listed in the posting is reflective of a 100% Full-time position. POSITION SPECIFICS

The Chaiken Center for Student Success at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Student Success Coaching and Programming Coordinator (Student Services Assistant) to assist in the management of the Center as a hub for student success in the College of the Liberal Arts.

The Chaiken Center for Student Success, in partnership with our college and university resources, provides students with a supportive place to be guided as they navigate their college journey. We empower students to utilize resources, connect with peers and campus communities, cultivate strengths and interests, and advocate for themselves, so they can achieve their individual goals for academic, personal, and professional success.

The Coordinator will support the Director in the development and expansion of the Center's main programming of peer success coaching and peer mentoring by assisting in hiring, training, conducting coaching observations and feedback, managing coaching referrals and appointments, and supervising all student staff in the Center. They will also provide broad support to the Director and the Center in coordinating the day-to-day administration of programming, promotion, and operations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the Director on the development and execution of the Center's strategic goals, including further development and expansion of peer student success coaching, first-generation committee-related programming, and leadership in student success initiatives

  • Coordinate and manage comprehensive special program planning and coordination of event and programming logistics alongside student staff and other student leaders associated with the Center (Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council and First-Generation Committee)

  • Co-facilitate programming development with "student voice" and student-centered driven focus

  • Oversee marketing, promotion, and outreach efforts, including supervision of a strategic communication's social media intern

  • Create and manage the Center's space reservation and equipment/game checkout system

  • Co-facilitate and/or co-present workshops or trainings for students or other college departments

  • Interview, hire, train, and supervise student peer success coaches, student peer mentors, social media intern, and other undergraduate or graduate student staff

  • Manage appointment and referral system for student appointments in Starfish

  • Manage and process financial forms for the Chaiken Center programming and events, center and office purchases, and event-related expenses

  • Serve as the first point of contact in the Center; uphold a climate of inclusion and belonging in the Center; create a welcoming and well-informed atmosphere

  • Serve as the Center's facility liaison, working closely with the college's facility coordinator to meet the needs of the Center

  • Attend weekly staff meetings, distribute meeting agendas, and record minutes

  • Manage email, event calendars, and listservs; communicate with college and university units in outreach and partnership efforts

  • Participate in university or college committees associated with first-generation and coaching initiatives as the Chaiken Center further develops its programming

The Chaiken Center encourages and is happy to provide professional development opportunities for the Coordinator to develop skills and knowledge in academic coaching.

This position will be required to work infrequent evenings (typically a few times each semester) for event support.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, and have the ability to multi-task and balance multiple and shifting priorities.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player with a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive working environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Student Services Assistant - Senior Support, this position requires: Associate Degree 4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Student Services Assistant - Intermediate Support, this position requires: General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School (HS) 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $38,300.00 - $61,000.00.
