The Position
Genentech, a member of the Roche group, seeks an experienced Legal Technology Manager to join our Legal Operations team. The Legal Technology Manager will play a critical role in driving efficiency and effectiveness in the Legal department through the thoughtful integration of technology, data analytics, process optimization, and automation tools. Reporting to the Head of Legal Operations and managing a small team of legal technology professionals, this individual will be responsible for evaluating, implementing, and maintaining various legal department technology solutions. The ideal candidate is a highly engaged and innovative leader who possesses a strong understanding of legal workflows, excellent technical aptitude, with a proven ability to lead and develop a team. You would also have a strong background in legal operations, technology management, and process optimization, with experience working in a corporate legal environment, having a dual understanding of technology and legal processes/ways of working. This role is located onsite at our South San Francisco campus, and a fully-remote working arrangement is not available. Relocation benefits are not available for this posting. Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning: Partner with Informatics and other stakeholders within Legal & Compliance to develop and implement a Legal Technology roadmap, aligning technology solutions with the Legal department's strategic goals and operational needs. Legal Tech Stack Management: Drive the selection, implementation, and ongoing improvement and management of legal technology platforms, including matter management, documentation management, e-billing, contract lifecycle management, etc. Innovation & Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve legal processes through workflow automation, data analytics, AI applications, and other emerging legal technologies. Project Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of legal technology projects, including planning, prioritization, implementation, testing, training, and go-live. Develop and manage project plans, timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope. System Administration and Maintenance: Manage and maintain existing legal technology systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and data integrity. Oversee system upgrades, patches, and configurations. User Support and Training: Lead the Legal Technology team in providing comprehensive user support, troubleshooting issues, and developing training materials and programs to maximize user adoption and proficiency across all legal technology platforms. Team Leadership and Development: Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of Legal Technology professionals, fostering innovation and a forward-thinking operational culture. Global Collaboration & Initiatives: Actively participate and/or lead global legal technology initiatives and work collaboratively with Informatics and other stakeholders within Legal & Compliance to align technology strategies, share best practices, and implement solutions that support the organization's global objectives and efficiency. Data & Reporting: Oversee the development of data-driven dashboards, reports, and analytics to provide actionable insights into legal department performance, risk, and value contribution. Change Management & Training: Lead change management initiatives to drive adoption of new tools and processes within the Legal function and among cross functional stakeholders. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in legal technology. Proactively identify and evaluate new technologies that could benefit the Legal Department and drive continuous improvement in legal operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal background is a plus. 8+ years of experience in legal technology, legal operations, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (managing and developing a team of technical professionals). Proven track record of effectively delivering legal technology initiatives in a corporate legal department, law firm, or legal services organization. Strong understanding of legal operations tools (CLM, matter management, e-billing, DMS, etc) and emerging legal tech trends (AI, data analytics, workflow automation). Strong understanding of legal workflows and processes within a corporate legal department. Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, inclusive of senior leaders as stakeholders/partners. This also includes the ability to simplify what is complex and focus the audience on key messages. Strong collaboration skills with those who are internal and external to the department. Strategic thinker with analytical and problem solving experience. Execution-oriented and able to complete and lead tasks independently. Comfortable working with all levels of a matrixed organization, including senior executives.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is$150,200 to $279,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
