2025 Fall Intern - Translational Medicine OMNI

Department Summary

The Department of Translational Medicine leads biomarker discovery and development efforts for programs in Early Stage Research through Phase III clinical trials. We use relevant pharmacodynamic biomarkers to evaluate target-engagement and mechanism of action of candidate therapies as well as prognostic biomarkers to guide patient selection. Our department is responsible for developing biomarker strategies, designing and implementing biomarker assays, and interpreting biomarker results. Biomarker team leaders within the department provide scientific leadership on biomarkers for clinical trials ranging from early proof-of-concept through global Phase III. We are currently seeking a highly-motivated intern to provide computational support on clinical development projects in Lupus. Specifically, the candidate would support the data analysis of pharmacodynamic and clinical biomarker data from various clinical studies to understand the investigational drug's impact on relevant immunological and pathological processes.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, California, on site.

The Opportunity

  • Analyze large clinical datasets containing diverse biomarker data, such as measures of cellular populations (e.g., immune cell subsets), molecular markers, proteomic and transcriptomic data

  • Explore the potential of biomarkers to predict or prognose treatment response and disease progression

  • Apply fit-for-purpose statistical and computational methods for data analysis

  • Candidates with experience in data mining, bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq analysis will be given preference.

  • Effective written and verbal communication is essential, along with a strong ability to form close partnerships with key functions including leaders in translational medicine, clinical Sciences, Biostatistics, Medical Affairs, and Bioinformatics.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Who You Are

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria (and be available and received approval to work full time for the full 12 weeks):

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree or

  • Must have attained a Master's degree or

  • Must be pursuing a PhD

Preferred Majors:

  • Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Data Science, or relevant engineering or scientific field.

Other Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Candidate must demonstrate a high level of independence and be able to develop hypotheses and direct analysis plans.

  • Strong writing and communication skills and demonstrated success working on cross-functional research or clinical project teams is preferred.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
