Essential Functions:
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and defend the studies and analysis completed by the System Studies group as well as the resulting Transmission System projects
- System Studies personnel perform all load customer interconnection studies
- System Studies personnel perform all studies related to distribution system projects, including determining how to connect new Distribution substations
- The manager must have sufficient experience to be able to identify issues with study results or system modeling and to be able to direct planners about how to resolve those issues.
- Plan, organize and coordinate updates to the power flow models to reflect changes in topology, resources and load.
- Provide expert testimony regarding analyses performed by the System Studies section as needed to support regulatory filings and provide other necessary regulatory support such as responding to discovery requests.
- For any study which resulted in a long-form CCN, the manager would be expected to participate in the CCN certification process by participating in open house meetings with the public, providing information for the CCN application or RFIs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ERCOT Protocols, ERCOT Planning Guides, NERC reliability standards including documentation as required by such standards. Provide audit support by ensuring accurate Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets and representing CenterPoint Energy as a Subject Matter Expert.
- Manager is responsible for creating the Annual Transmission Planning Assessment.
- Manager is responsible for providing input into the ERCOT Transmission Interconnection Study process each base case update.
- Manager would be a SME or be directly involved in the following Standards: TPL-001-5, FAC-008, PRC-023, MOD-032, and FAC-002.
- Review proposed ERCOT Protocol or Planning Guide changes and provide comments.
- Represent CenterPoint Energy on applicable ERCOT and NERC working groups, user groups and cross functional teams.
- Manager is contact person for all ERCOT Regional Transmission Plan studies, coordination, and responses.
- Manager participates in the Steady-state Working Group and System Projection Working Group.
- Manager participates in the Large Flexible Load Task Force.
- Support CenterPoint Energy Regional Planning Group transmission project submittals related to the analysis performed by the System Studies section.
- Ensure timely submittal and creation of planning models for the ERCOT Steady-State Working Group and System Protection Working Group.
- These models are used by planners to sponsor capital projects in excess of $1B in the 5 year capital budget.
- These models are used by Protection Engineers to protect the transmission system from failure of and damage to facilities
- System Modeling provides Transmission Project and Information Tracking data to ERCOT for market participants use
- Oversee the databases containing Most Limiting Series Element transmission line ratings, transmission line impedance calculations, and short circuit ratings.
- Accurate ratings and impedances are needed to protect transmission facilities from damage.
- Conduct performance reviews, counsel and prepare development plans for direct reports. Coach and develop employees including providing training and development opportunities.
Education Description:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
- A Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
- A PhD in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for up to an additional year of experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of electric utility or power engineering experience, including expertise and experience in the type of work performed by Transmission Studies and Modeling.
