This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security, and Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Additive Manufacturing Maintenance Technician to join our team as an early career professional. As part of a small team of Technicians, you will support multiple additive manufacturing systems as well as ancillary equipment to maintain Blue Origin's launch vehicle programs. This position serves as a crucial role in the Additive Manufacturing department in the maintenance and support of additive machinery and is a vital component of the AM Ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have a strong maintenance foundation. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our additive manufacturing processes, contributing to the production of high-quality components. Key Responsibilities:

  • System Maintenance:

    • Maintain and improve additive manufacturing machines to maximize part quality, machine up-time, and production throughput.
    • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of metal 3D printing machines.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity.
    • Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Process Optimization:

    • Collaborate with the team on AM process improvements.
    • Implement improvements to increase print quality and efficiency.
  • Quality Assurance:

    • Meet both quality and schedule expectations.
    • Ensure all printed parts meet specified quality standards.
    • Perform inspections and tests on printed components to verify dimensional accuracy and material properties.
  • Documentation:

    • Follow standardized file systems and traceability documentation for all machine-related repair/anomaly reported incidents.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, machine performance, and any issues encountered.
    • Document procedures and best practices for machine operation and maintenance.
  • Supply Management:

    • Track related consumable supplies and alert responsible personnel if additional supplies are required (procurement and maintenance of powders, hand tooling, build plates, process gas quality, filters, etc.).
  • Safety Compliance:

    • Maintain PPE and safety awareness in a shop setting.
    • Practice safe workplace techniques.
    • Identify JHA's (Job Hazard Analysis) and author JHA's.
  • Vendor Assistance:

    • Assist visiting vendor field service engineers during commissioning, service calls, and machine upgrades such as software and hardware-related upgrades.
  • Ancillary Equipment:

    • Maintain all AM ancillary equipment and document accordingly.
    • Perform additive machine diagnostics and machine operation troubleshooting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:

    • 1+ years of hands-on mechanical experience.
    • An understanding of AM machine operation, including machine flips and daily general maintenance tasks such as filter replacements.
    • Proven track record of resourcefulness from previous assignments.
  • Skills:

    • Basic hand and power tool proficiency.
    • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
    • Basic proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office.
    • Comfortable with confined spaces and working with hazardous chemicals.
  • Additional Requirements:

    • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes in additive manufacturing.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 5S experience.
    • Additive Manufacturing Experience.
    • Previous laser and/or electrical experience.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $24.02-$33.63
