Job Summary

The RTO Manager is responsible for producing high quality Avient Protective Materials products in the most cost-effective manner and according to the production plan, while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards. He/she ensures that maintenance, projects, and other support efforts are implemented to meet Operations' needs across the site.

The RTO Manager will operate with LP or Fiber production. Lead ready to operate teams for large projects. Direct the daily maintenance and project activities and start-up/shut-down activities across the site, interfacing with technical, engineering, maintenance, and other support groups to ensure production and quality goals are achieved. Maintaining LTO, such as SHE, is a significant part of this position.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Maintain or enhance safety awareness programs and related documentation. Support and lead the Avient Protective Materials Safety Committee. Take action to correct unsafe acts, systems and procedures.
  • Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  • Lead ready to operate teams for Large Capital and other CAPEX projects of significant size to require this additional leadership and team effort. Work with project organization and other resources to implement projects in production. Organize team, provide direction, and ensure all Operations requirements are accomplished to complete the project and ensure smooth handover to production, including all training and required documentation.
  • Provide leadership as the Operations linking pin for projects implemented and LP and Fiber production. This includes involvement in the project team at the start of the project. Responsibilities include ensuring the project plan meets the needs of Operations (production means, process equipment, automation, spare parts, etc.); challenging and ensuring project risk assessments and HAZOPs are effective; and identifying and ensuring training requirements are met,
  • Lead Building and Equipment Stops to include preparation, implementation, start-up, and follow-up of key learnings to complete the Stop safe and continuously improve.
  • Work with Maintenance and Reliability engineering to identify and address repetitive maintenance issues; and improve training and knowledge for maintenance support both internal and external to operations. Introduce and oversees maintenance helper role.
  • Supervise and enforce the training, execution, and assessment of SHE requirements for direct reports.
  • Facilitate teamwork within the LP/Fiber production group. Provide necessary resources for the team to fulfill objectives. Encourage team members to understand corporate and departmental goals/objectives and needs. Provide supervisory communication and/or direction to employees. Disseminate needed divisional, unit and corporate information to employees on a timely basis. Establish and maintain an open line of communication with all employees.
  • Assist the Director, Production Operations in establishing operational goals to support divisional, unit, and corporate objectives. Incorporate short-term goals in immediate subordinates' annual performance plans. Initiate and implement plans to reduce COGS by continuously improving efficiencies, processing times, reducing labor and material costs, reducing maintenance costs and controlling expense budgets.
  • Maintain adequate manufacturing and support facilities to produce the highest quality product in a cost-effective manner. Work with Engineering to assess manufacturing capacity and the need to upgrade facilities to meet regulatory requirements and process improvements.
  • Work with management to review monthly expense reports for budgetary compliance. Investigate and resolve significant variances/problems.
  • May manage other supervisors and coaching of salaried staff.
  • Leadership of projects.
  • Manage significant budgets.
  • Review and approve LP/Fiber work instructions, recipes, and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental programs. Promote waste reduction and recovery projects and incorporate associated operations in applicable manufacturing processes. Ensure staff is trained on current waste disposal procedures and prevention procedures. Identify opportunities to minimize waste and to recycle.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of liquid and solid hazardous wastes in production area.
  • It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace.
  • Comply with all job-related safety and other training requirements.
  • Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Authorities

Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.

Education and Experience



  • BS/BA in related technical field with 5 years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree in related technical field with 6 years of relevant experience OR 7 years of production related experience. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Capable of challenging all Operations aspects of projects (production means, process equipment and operation, automation, spare parts, etc.)
  • Ability to translate improvements and changes into operations requirements such as procedure updates and training requirements.
  • Capable of reading P&IDs and able to visualize the process and requirements needed to develop start-up and operations plans.
  • Ability to effectively manage team performance and to identify developmental opportunities for team members (direct and indirect).
  • Ability to influence indirect reports and other colleagues to implement changes and improvements.
  • Firm understanding of production and maintenance planning and scheduling activities.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations related LP/Fiber and LP/Fiber Production activities.
  • Ability to drive improvements in production, maintenance, projects, and other support functions.

  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud.
