Hourly Pay Range:

$35.16 - $54.50 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Genetic Counselor- Evanston

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Genetic Counselor
  • Location: Evanston, IL
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm.
  • Required Travel: Limited Travel

What you will do:

Clinical Practice

Medical Genetics Division Patient Counseling and Consultations (virtual and in-person)

  • Conduct thorough genetic assessments and risk assessments for patients and families.
  • Provide genetic counseling to individuals and families with a focus on genetic conditions, hereditary diseases, and birth defects.
  • Educate patients and their families on genetic test results, inheritance patterns, and potential health implications.
  • Offer information on available genetic testing options and their limitations.
  • Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and families dealing with genetic concerns and diagnoses.
  • Address psychological and ethical aspects of genetic testing and decision-making.
  • Obtain informed consent for genetic testing, ensuring patients fully understand the benefits, risks, and potential outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of genetic counseling sessions, assessments, and test results.

Coverage in-patient requests (e.g., ISCU)

Review, implementation, innovation of workflows supporting clinical care within Division

Tumor Board support

Manage clinic relationship with core 3rd party providers

Outcomes, Engagement and Research

Research initiatives

Program Development

Community/Provider Engagement Projects

  • Participate in community education and outreach programs to raise awareness of genetic counseling services and promote genetic health.

Quality, Equity, Outcomes Research

Cross specialty support for NorthShore studies requiring input

Data analytics research

Population Health Testing with 3rd Party Lab Vendors

Digital, Population, Specialty

Primary Care Initiatives (e.g., Genetic Screening Questionnaire)

Expand, manage digital outreach clinical programming including social media, web content

Activation strategies (Endeavor and 3rd party vendor/collaborations initiated)

Virtual offerings patient, community, and provider facing (e.g., educational forums, novel counseling outreach)

Collaboration with Specialty and new hospital systems to integrate genetic testing as part of their care.

What you will need:

  • Education Level: MS in Medical Genetics
  • Licenses/Certifications: an Illinois Genetic Counselor license required or temporary license accepted until eligible to be licensed; Certification accepted upon hire or must be of Active Candidate Status with the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) and must pass the Certified Genetic Counselor Examination within five years of graduation from an ACGC accredited program.
  • One or more years in Genetic Counseling preferred.
  • Public speaking, teaching, listening, writing, and research skills.
  • Good communication and collaborative skills.
  • Flexible to meet the demands of patients and physicians.
  • Exhibits good judgement.
  • Organized, conscientious and dependable
