How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

The Hospital Community Resource Officer (HCRO) plays a critical role in enhancing the relationship between nursing, clinical teams, and the police and security department across the healthcare system. This role focuses on proactive engagement, fostering collaboration, and providing expert guidance on security-related issues within clinical environments. Additionally, the HCRO will design, develop, and deliver comprehensive safety and security education programs in partnership with the Training and Education Department, supporting both hospital and non-hospital-based settings.

Relationship Building & Clinical Support (50%)

  • Serve as the primary liaison between nursing staff, clinical teams, and police and security personnel to strengthen trust and collaboration.
  • Partner with clinical leaders to identify and address security concerns, offering consultative support for high-risk situations.
  • Facilitate debriefings and after-action reviews following security-related incidents to identify lessons learned and improve practices.
  • Provide on-site support during critical incidents, ensuring cohesive communication between clinical and security teams.

Education & Training (40%)

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate safety and security-related training programs tailored to diverse healthcare environments.
  • Collaborate with the Training and Education Department to integrate security concepts into clinical education and orientation programs.
  • Deliver classroom-based, virtual, and scenario-based training sessions on topics such as workplace violence prevention, de-escalation techniques, active threat response, and emergency preparedness.
  • Stay current with best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in healthcare security and safety education.

Program Development & Strategic Initiatives (10%)

  • Support the development of policies and procedures related to security operations, emergency response, and staff safety.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary committees focused on safety, security, and emergency preparedness.
  • Assist in the evaluation of security programs, recommending enhancements to improve effectiveness

Hours are Day Shift,Some evenings may be needed.

What We Require:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Instruction in Education, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration, or related field required. Master's degree in a relevant discipline preferred.

Experience: Previous law enforcement or teaching experience preferred.

Licensure,certification, and/or registration: Valid Virginia driver's license required.

Life Support: BLS

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a driving record within the scope of Carilion's Driver Regulations. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Computer keyboarding skills.
