The Program Support Assistant performs a variety of administrative/clerical support functions for the Department.

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of two (2) years of previous secretarial/administrative work experience in an office setting.
Previous experience with Microsoft Office applications & e-mail/calendaring.

Experience PREFERRED:
Three (3) years of previous secretarial/administrative work experience in an office setting.
Previous experience in a health care setting.

Education/training REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Education/training PREFERRED:
Post High School coursework in Business, Accounting or closely related field.

Independent action(s) required:
Performs administrative/clerical duties independently and without direct supervision.

The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory at VCU has opening for 1 full time Program Support Assistant. The Laboratory, which is part of the Hume- Lee Transplant Center, is a High Complexity Clinical Laboratory that provides services to the Solid Organ and the Bone Marrow Transplant Programs at VCU Health System. TheLaboratory opened in 1965 as one of the first of its kind in the world and specializes in the most up-to date testing for HLA typing, antibody detection and compatibility testing. The Histocompatibility Laboratory is located in a 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in the Virginia Bio-Technology Research Park. This full time Program Support Assistant position offers an opportunity to work with one of the busiest transplant programs in the nation and a clinical staff with a mission to provide the best in patient care, research and education.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • All aspects of general office duties-answering phones and doors, mail, filing, creating and revising documents and correspondence, maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings and recording meeting minutes, etc.
  • Assist with timecard modifications and reconcile payroll issues as needed
  • Arrange travel authorizations and reimbursement processing
  • Weekly purchasing of supplies for the laboratory
  • Perform miscellaneous errands and activities as needed to support the department
  • Other administrative tasks as necessary to support the laboratory and transplant program as needed

Candidates must have:

  • computer proficiency and expertise to manipulate office software platforms to generate correspondence, business reports, documents, and spreadsheets.
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • multi-tasking and organizational skills are essential.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Post High School coursework in Business, Accounting, or other closely related field is preferred.

Relevant work experience in an administrative or support role will be helpful.
