DevOps Engineer

Are you passionate about automation, cloud infrastructure, and delivering software at mission speed? We're seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our growing team here at NS2 Mission in Herndon and Chantilly, VA, where you'll help transform how modern applications and data systems are built, deployed, and maintained.

In this role, you'll be more than just a support function-you'll engineer the infrastructure that enables secure, scalable, and rapid software delivery in hybrid cloud environments. From building resilient CI/CD pipelines to implementing Infrastructure as Code and container orchestration, your work will be central to accelerating development and driving operational excellence across mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer and technical teams to implement DevOps best practices, automation, and tooling that enhance system performance and reduce operational risk.
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to manage, provision, and version-control software environments and releases.
  • Containerize Java and Python applications for deployment in Kubernetes environments, ensuring high availability, scalability, and efficient parallel processing.
  • Optimize infrastructure using AWS best practices, including autoscaling, resource scheduling, and cost-efficient architecture.
  • Partner with development teams throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure applications are designed with deployment and production operations in mind.
  • Automate deployments and implement version control strategies that support zero-downtime deployments and robust rollback mechanisms.
  • Integrate security scanning tools and enforce security compliance throughout the build and deployment pipelines in collaboration with Information Systems Security Engineers (ISSEs).
  • Maintain and author configuration files, scripts, and documentation to support DevOps tools and infrastructure in alignment with Agile development practices.
  • Support hybrid environments, including multi-cloud and multi-domain deployments, using DevOps tools to ensure system interoperability and consistency.
  • Operate, monitor, and support a suite of enterprise DevOps services and tools.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and requirements-gathering sessions with stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful implementation of DevOps strategies.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong experience with DevOps tools and automation frameworks in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Kubernetes, etc.).
  • Proficiency with containerization, CI/CD pipelines, version control (e.g., Git), and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Knowledge of software configuration management, environment provisioning, and deployment orchestration.
  • Experience integrating security best practices and tools into the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Solid scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) and familiarity with YAML, JSON, and other configuration languages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced Agile environment and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent documentation skills and a proactive approach to team communication and technical knowledge sharing.
